Leather Conditioners... Grrr (sniff)...

Well, in my quest to find a leather conditioner that smells like leather, I just got some Pinnacle Leather Conditioner. To all of you who said it smells like leather (http://www.autopia.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16690), do you have some different formulation? This stuff smells chemically and very much like #40 or other vinyl/rubber stuff. It doesn't smell like leather. I tried it on the seats to see if maybe it would smell better when used, but it didn't. I was a bit disappointed by it. It also seems to leave a shinier surface than Lexol, which I don't care for. I could understand it being referred to as having a "new car" smell, but only because new-car smell is chemically and not overly appealing. I was really excited about the Pinnacle arriving and about my car smelling like a leather shop, and it really let me down. :( :( I'm sure it is a good conditioner, but I only bought it for the smell. I already love the way Lexol conditions.

I want something that smells like a leather store! You know, when you walk into the leather place in the mall, or some place on vacation that makes their own leather products. That smell. I've heard Car Brite's leather stuff smells that way, and I've heard the same about Zaino's Leather-in-a-bottle. But do they really smell like leather?

So now I have Meguiar's Gold Class cleaner/conditioner (it smells much more leathery than the Pinnacle), Lexol cleaner and conditioner (which I think smells the most like leather, not sure why some of you are so repulsed by it), and the Pinnacle. It will take me forever to use it all up.

Thanks for the review. I too have been wanting a real leather smelling product but I have put this on the back burner for now. Thank you for saving me from trying the Pinnacle. I was very close to ordering some in the near future because of the reports circulating about its aroma.:bow

Platinum has a leather smelling conditioner. I think it works great. Lexol is wonderful but it smells like goat urine. I love that leathery smell...mmmmmmmmmm

LOL, now if I were to do a search for "goat urine" I'd get a hit!

I took a whiff one day of Auto Magic's leather conditioner and it did smell like leather I suppose, although the "leather smell" seems to be different things to different companies and people.... :nixweiss Might be worth checking out though if you know a place that has it locally.

EDIT: Actually I got TWO HITS from "goat urine" including this thread! LOL LOL guess who used it last. ;) http://www.autopia.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7255&highlight=goat+urine

Picking up a bottle of the cleaner and conditioner today. I think it conditions the best and smells better than average.

It seems aurora found the same thing...

:up

the ones I use sometimes that I like are:

1) Conolly Hide Food (smells decent IMO but doesnt last)

2) Leatherique (expensive, and you can't use it that often because of its extra loosening properties)

3) Zaino LIAB (good smell, but doesnt last and dries out leather more than it softens it.)

I agree with Shiny lil detlr about the Zaino LIAB. It does smell like leather, and actually the smell seams to last quite a while.

He's also rite that it seems to dry out the leather.

My question, is it worth ruining your interior for the smell??

Is there a Leather product that is going to both last and nourish the leather???

:) Do we dare ask how it comes to pass that you are acquainted with that particular smell? :D :D

You really don't want to know... lol :p Its kind of a long standing joke though. I forgot that I had said that before. LOL

I guess I'll try to find Auto Magic and Car Brite locally. That way I can at least smell them before I buy them. If Zaino tends to dry stuff, maybe I'll steer clear. Although I do plan to still use Lexol as the primary cleaner and conditioner. I just want something to put on that smells leathery. I'll have to think about the Platinum (I'm a bit hesitant to buy without smelling).

You're in nova aren't you? My BMW could use some leather cleaner in a few spots. ;) :p

I've never smelled a car that smells like a "leather store". I think it's because the leather used in cars and jackets and such are different.

That's odd. I bought some Pinnacle Leather Conditioner because I heard it had a very matte finish and I think it smells of leather...

Aurora40 I completely agree with you on the Pinnacle leather conditioner. It has an overbearing/artificial/strong chemical smell to it; not at all pleasant. :( Actually gave me a headache.

I had purchased a bottle a while back, and after one use I gave the entire bottle to a friend of mine that stated that he liked that stuff. I was glad that he took it off my hands. I can't say that I'd ever recommend it to anyone.

I also felt that it's conditioning ability was poor and the sheen that it left was too high. :down

I....can't....stop.....laughing....

But seriously, what's the differnence in smell between goat and other four-legged creature urine?

Every person who has ridden in my car has complemented it's smell. Last weekend, I had 4 people in my car...Two men and Two women. One of them, out of the blue, blurted, "Damn, your car smells good." They all chimed in with the same sentiment and the comments were glowing.

Unless they've changed the formula in the last six weeks, Pinnacle Leather conditioner rocks.

Oh no! I bought some but haven't tried it yet. How many other people think it dries out the leather?

Tanner's Preserves smells like a Wilson's Shop (those leather stores in the malls) and it isn't very expensive. Nice matte finish too. Turtle Wax has a leather conditioner spray that also has a nice leathery smell, satiny sheen and won't clog the holes in perforated seats.

That's too bad you don't like it. Nothing like getting your hopes up and then end up with a big let down. :( I think it leaves my interior with a great leather smell. I've never noticed Pinnacle having that much of a sheen, but then I always buff my seats with a MF after it has dried.

As a side note: I noticed in the thread from Aurora40's post that the name of the company I bought my stuff from in my reply was replaced with "****". How come? :nixweiss

i used to use the Meguiar's GC cleaner/conditioner, the one that is a creamy texture, not the spray. It worked well, but I didn't find the leather smell. I've been using the Zaino LIAB and like it so far. It has a strong smell at first, but seems to turn into a really nice leather smell afterwards. It's been over a month since I last touched the leather, but the car still smells like leather. It has a nice "new" finish after application, but as others have said, it seems to dry out a little prematurely.
