Least favorite part of detailing

Cleanup after polishing... I absolutely HATE talking all the tape off, removing all the drips/"overspray", etc... from windows and paint... 2nd would be drying... I don't mind washing at all, but drying the car, then drying all the little crevices, then finding out something's still wet so you can't tape it up... :bawling:

I might say windows, but I don't have a terrible time.



My least favorite part: clean up and washing the MF's, pads, etc. etc.

Doh... I didn't read the whole thread before posting... I agree with thunder here as well, I wish there was a really good and fast way to wash pads...

Interior and drying. I dont mind washing either, now if I had a foam gun it would be my FAVORITE part!

#1: Really old cars that haven't been detailed before. Mine was 13 years old before it got a detail when I inherited it. There are water spots on the glass which puts all of your water complaints to shame. I had more contaminants on the boot lid then most of you do on the whole car. And the list goes on...



#2: Anything hard to get to (under spoilers, tight places, etc).

Accumulator said it right. Detailing isn't all that enjoyable but I'm strangely hooked to it and on detail days I find myself calling it done but going out atleast once an hour to do something additional cause I cant stay away. I certaintly couldn't do it for a living on my own and I admire those of you that have the patience to do so.



I dream of the day that paint correction is done for good and we can just screw around with washing and LSP'ing

My least favorite part of detailing is doing the front/rear bumpers because not only do I have to deal with a curvy surface, but I have to sit on my a$$ to do it and all that getting up and sitting down takes a toll by the end of the day.

I completely agree. I always do them last simply because I dread doing them. Maybe I should begin doing them first just to get them over with. A close second is polishing the roof of an SUV with a rack on it.

How come drying isn't on the list? That's what I really hate the most. When your tired after washing, then you have to dry...

My worst part is badly mangled front bumpers that have tons of clearcoat missing from debris damage and bug damage. Also filthy interiors that are dripping with old human grease. I charge double for the human grease removal. Oh and by far the worst is those vehicles with sour formula/milk stains and smell all over the back seats. The smell is just horrid!

Drying after a conventional wash: Right when you finish drying, the trim starts to drip.



Polishing : I'm still a bit of a noob and need to work on the patience factor.

I actually sorta *enjoy* dong wheelwells/undercarraiges, have to stop myself from going overboard at every wash. And I like spending days on end salvaging a neglected older car (I guess I take this to extremes as I'm still working on the M3 ).

..[I also hate polishing the ].. roof of an SUV with a rack on it.

On the Blazer and the rent-a-Suburban I just took them off and reinstalled them after I was finished. The time it took to lock-tite 'em/etc. was nothing compared to the hassle of working around them.

Wheels & wells, because they can take almost as long as the whole rest of the wash. My wheels have 15 spokes to clean. I had five spoke wheels before, but gave up on them after I bent 5 of them. However the car just doesn't look clean unless the wheels & wells look good.



If I had all kinds of time I wouldn't mind, but I feel guilty for spending all that time on the cars and not enough playing catch with the kids.

If I could vote 10 times for wheels/tires/wells, I would. It is, by far, my most hated detailing task.

Buffing window pillars

:up Snag the tape and smear the adhesive or trash your pad!



Close second.... compounding the 3-5 inch section of paint between the sunroof and windshield on smaller vehicles with a raised windshield moulding. I hate changing out my backing plate.
