Layering Waxes

OK, I know you can put several coats of a carnuba wax on top of each other or coats of like synthetic waxes over each other (zaino)



I was wondering if I could apply mother's 3 step wax (wax cleaner,glaze,carnuba wax) and then apply a synthetic wax on top (formula 2001 car wax) to help the wax job last longer.



Or should I just do a couple coats of the carnuba wax and leave it as is.



Or am I just being retarted? :rolleyes:
 
I don't know that I would layer a synthetic wax on top of a carnauba. You probably want to do that the other way around. Its not really going to help the wax job last longer either. No matter how many coats of wax you have on the car they are still going to burn off or wear off in less than 8 weeks anyway. A synthetic may last longer than a carnauba but its still not going to be around much longer than 8 weeks. For true longevity you need to go with a total synthetic and then top it with carnauba for additional appearance points.
 
If this "Formula 2001" stuff is the neon green container from Turtle Wax, I wouldn't bother. Give it away, find some other use for it, etc, etc. It's a cleaner wax that will undo your earlier glaze and wax, and according to thewaxtest did not look all that hot or last all that long. If I remember what it said it was almost identical to the original Turtle Wax.



There are tons of waxes out there that sound like they're just like the synthetic waxes we all love, but they have poor durability even though they throw around words like "polymers" and "synthetic". I don't think you can get anything super-tough from a Pepboys type of product lineup (as far as I know).



I would just stick with the Mothers wax, which is supposed to be pretty good and it has a better chance of being layerable with itself since it's cleanerless. :up
