Layering wax on top of Klasse

I have heard that it's possible to add a layer of traditional wax on top of Klasse AIO or SG. But what if the wax contains petroleum distillates? Wouldn't that remove the Klasse that's already on?

As the name implies, Klasse AIO (All In One) is both a chemical cleaner/polish AND a sealant - Klasse SG is the sealant/Glaze only. Yes, I've read that you can top a sealant with a carnuba. Matter of fact 'the perfect shine' referred to on this web site, uses Klasse AIO, SG x2 and a coat of PS21 carnuba.

Polymers can be layered if allowed sufficient cure times, however, once you put on the carnuba layer, you can't add more polymer until the wax is removed. And except for pure waxes, the solvents/carrier in most carnuba formulas prevent multiple layers of wax. There are those here that swear by a 'spit shine' layer of waxing, but this can only be done with waxes that don't have solvent carriers.

Whew. Long answer - sorry. anyway, you CAN top a polymer with a carnuba. Some say this gives you the better durability protection of the polymer and the deeper/wetter shine of the carnuba.

As long as you use a pure wax and not a cleaner wax, you will be fine.

In fact, it should look great.

All waxes are going to have some solvent content. If they didn't, the wax would be way too stiff to apply it. IMO, whether or not you can apply a wax on top of a sealant depends on two things--the durability of the sealant and the strength of the solvents in the wax. Not using a cleaner wax will certainly be easier on the sealant, but short of watching the action at the molecular level, I don't think you'll ever know for sure whether or not your sealant is still present after waxing.

No problems putting (non-cleaner) waxes over Klasse. Once the Klasse sets up it's too tough for the limited solvent content of regular waxes.

But FWIW I've quit topping my KSG with wax as I prefer to be able to just add more KSG from time to time (which you can't do once you've applied wax; KSG doesn't bond to wax).
