Layering protection... ??? ...

Poorboy- Hey, that`s *exactly* how I discovered that Malm`s Liquid Wax layered on my Jag! That experience was from 30 years ago, back when I didn`t mind spendng forever detailing ;)
 
I have 7 layers of Natty`s on my car. Added a mix of liquid red/blue the other day. looks better each coat, to me..and I`m the one doing it so all I`m looking for is to impress myself

solvents? chilled spray and gloss lowers those just fine for me
 
KSG layers very nicely . I dont know about others so much .

For customers I often wax and then use OCW quickly over the entire car to get any missed areas and get any dust off. I like to think its adding more protection but not sure if it really does.

Actually I do have a customers weekly wash I was using OCW every time afterwards and it definetely was layering . I could feel the difference. After a while I stopped because it started to get a bit streaky looking.
 
Man, all of you guys are talking about multiple layers:blink: Some info on my new to me car, Daily Driver Lexus GS300 Imperial Jade, glazed with Finish Kare Foam Pad Glaze and FK1000p as the LSP, I`ll tell you what, FK1000p does not like anything on top of it except for FK425 or Megs Ultimate Quik Wax, and thats with a bit more pressure than normal on the buff, less press streaks. In this Texas heat, there comes a point when you just start moving the toppers around:mellow: I will say though, in cooler temps another layer of Collinite 476S makes quite the pop.:wow:
 
TheMeanGreen- IMO that FK1000P is so great it`d be a shame to top it if only because you couldn`t add more/refresh it!

Best topper for FK1000P is probably the FK Pink Wax, which was *specifically* formulated for that. But I`d still rather just add more FK1000P myself.

I bet that Imperial Jade looks great with that LSP on it.

EDIT: since you mentioned both FK425 and Collinite 476S, thought I oughta mention that I once had the FK425 do a *TERRIBLE* solvent-action thing to a vehicle wearing the 476S. Pseudo-holograms that were simply awful, had to start all over with a paintcleaner to strip the mess off.
 
ca.detail.chick- You`re not the only person here who`s had the OCW start streaking if over-used. Never happened to me, but then I`m not washing/OCWing that frequently either.

IMO it *does* add some protection, if only by being an additional sacrificial layer. And its (supposed/claimed) UV protection makes it worth using on lenses IMO, even if I`m not using it on the rest of the vehicle.
 
I find FK425 to be an excellent drying aid over FK1000--really adds a slickness to the paint which of course is short lived, but makes the drying towel just slide over the paint. While the 425 is active I also find dust blows off the car at normal driving speeds.

The Imperial Jade looks lovely with FK1000P, everyone at work compliments the car.:) So far I have only used 476S on one or two panels, and it brought great depth (with a one step), some other panels have a second layer of FK1000P. The 476S made the metallic pop, whilst the FK1000P added depth. Since I will be stripping everything when fall comes around, I figured that I would just play around with what I have.


And to whoever said they used the FK425 as a drying aid over FK1000P, you`re so right, it does a terrific job with a WW. As my car just turned 145K, I am really trying to touch the car less, so I have been using the leaf blower to dry the car. As a DD, she gets quite dusty and every couple days I have been QD`ing, I have come to realize that I am touching the car so much that I am becoming blind (tell me you get it) in the quest for shine, that I have also added a few minor swirls.:redface: I don`t have a paint gauge, so I have to do light correction to keep that clear coat as thick as possible and preserve it. Sooooo with that said, I am going to have to resort to Sunday washes.:cry:
 
Ya know, I was all about FK425 as a drying aid for FK1000P...*UNTIL* I started using IUDJ. Oddly enough (sure didn`t expect it), I think the IUDJ works at least as well and even makes it look a tiny bit better. Even seems at least as slick. Who would`ve thunk it?!?

TheMeanGreen- That`s interesting about the 476S making the metallic pop while the FK1000P added depth as it`s the *opposite* of what I`ve experience! One of those "YMMV!" things I guess.

Now quit QDing it ;)

Accumulator: Are you using the IUDJ with the "juice boost" enhancer? Or just "straight up?"

I`m curious. I bought both and have always used them together, but wonder if the IUDJ is equally as good just on its own...

Only time I layer is if I do an AIO polish, then dedicated LSP
Like speed and poxy
Never bothered with doing 2 coats of LSP
Or to do something like paste wax/sealant combo (cure time swayed me away)

Straight. I toy with the idea of getting the Juice Boost but haven`t bought any so far.

I do mix the IUDJ up somewhat strong, about 2oz per gallon of water.

I`m curious. I bought both and have always used them together, but wonder if the IUDJ is equally as good just on its own...

If you ever do a comparison, I`d sure hope the Juice Boost contributes *something*, given its cost.

I don`t do the "wax topper over sealant" either, but I simply *must* layer my LSPs in order to get the durability I demand. No way am I gonna reLSP any more often than I have to, just a personal preference thing (my washes are such an ordeal that I don`t want to do anything more than that unless I absolutely have to).

I guess that`s why they call it "wax wasting" :)

I enjoy layering - not sure how much layering is visible but I`m telling you I can see every layer`s difference and that`s all I need to know
 
Accumulator..... I thought I`d just use HydroFoam on my truck and be done..then ended up using DoDo Future Armour Sealant as a drying aid..then ended up topping that with liquid souveran spray

I guess I have a problem
