Layering Protection On Mini Cooper

WELL TO PROPERLY INTRODUCE MYSELF MY NAME IS LUIS AND IM 17. I GOT MY CAR

(MINI COOPER GREEN w/ WHITE TOP AND MIRRORS AND WHEELS)

BRAND NEW ABOUT 8 MONTHS AGO. AND I'VE KEPT IT IN GOOD CONDITION. THERE WAS THIS CAR GUY IN MY JOBS PARKING LOT WHO WOULD WASH MY CAR EVERY WEEK AND WAX IT TWICE A MONTH. I WOULD ALSO ATTEMPT IT MYSELF. I HAD IT PROFESSIONALLY DETAILED ONCE. AFTER THAT I STARTED DOING IT MYSELF. STARTED OUT USUAL. BASICALLY WITH TURTLE WAX HARD SHELL AND SLOWLY STARTED HATING IT AND STARTED USING MORE BETTER CONSUMER PRODUCTS. RIGHT NOW I WASH AND WAX MY CAR WITH PRACTICALLY EVERYTHING MEGUIARS. 2 MONTHS AGO I:

WASHED

CLAYBAR

DEEP CRYSTAL POLISH

MEGUIARS GOLD CLASS WAX

NOW I WANNA DETAIL IT LIKE THAT AND DONT MIND DOING IT OR ANYTHING POSSIBLE TO KEEP THE CAR LOOKING GREAT.

I PRETTY MUCH JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT EXACTLY I SHOULD LAYER. IF I SHOULD LAYER THE "DP POLISH" OR IF I SHOULD LAYER THE WAX. AND IF SO HOW DO I LAYER A CAR. DO I WAIT A WHILE. DO I JUST WAX IT EVERY WEEK. IM CLUELESS.

MOTHERS SHOWTIME DETAILER

MEGUIARS QUIK DETAILER

NXT WAX

NXT SPRAY WAX

DEEP CRYSTAL POLISH

AND OTHER MISC. PRODUCTS FOR TRIM, WINDOWS, WHEELS, ECT.

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED


P.S. I LIVE IN MIAMI AND LATELY ITS BEEN RAINING A LOT LATELY, BUT FORECAST ASSUMES THIS WILL BE A GOOD WEEKEND.
 
If I understand you correctly, your process will involve Gold Class Wax as the final step. That would be the product you would want to 'layer.' You generally give the previous coat 24 hours to set up, however, you don't 'have' to do that. There is an ongoing discussion of layering - whether it adds more protection or just give a more 'even' coat. I don't really know all about that, but from what I read in your post I would prep the paint with the polish of your choice and then add the topper(Meg's GC). you can then add additional layers of the topper. Oh, and welcome to DC!
 
if i were to wait 24 hours im assuming the car would probably have attracted some dust by then. would i wash the car again or should i use a quik detailer and then add wax. if so would using nxt spray wax be a good product to use for layering. thatnks for the quick response. i expected it to be a while
 
Yes, the car will attract dust. You can wash or use a spray and wipe type product. I don't think the NXT spray is quite what I would use. it is meant to be a booster for the NXT wax. Now, if the NXT was your final wax, then I would imagine using it as a S&W would be fine. You could probably use the Meg's Quick Detailer to clean it off if the dust is light. If you drive the car, especially in the summer night, and get bugs and things on it, I would wash it more than likely, but that is just me.
 
Based on what you have. I would wash the car then polish to get a smooth surface then wax. You can layer the product by waiting a day I'd do a quick wash then layer. I dont layer much but my cars are garage qeens, if yours is outside most of the time then I'd set up a monthly wash wax to maintain the finish
 
Megs gold class is a carnauba wax, not a sealant. Carnauba waxes don't really "layer" per se like a sealant does. Gold class is a pretty durable wax, and considering you leave in Miami (hot!), I would just simply wax it every 3-4 weeks and you'll be fine. If you want more durability, and the ability to "layer" your top coat, consider using a sealant. There are many fine sealants available such as UPP, EX-P, Klasse, Wolfgang, Menzerna. Unfortunately, you pretty much have to order these online (premiumautocare.com is my fav). If you are looking for something retail, try using Meguiars NXT. I've never tried NXT, but I've heard it's pretty good. Hope this helps.

NXT is a polymer sealant. Reports on durability are scarce because NXT is still a relatively new product. I would guess it would be in the 3-6 month range depending on condition such as climate and exposure to contaminants. That seems to be the standard for most polymer sealants.
 
so since its not technically a wax per se its ok to layer. im just asking since one of the post indicates that a carnuba wax is no good for layering. if all goes wells ill detail my car todai at 5:00 and probably be done by 8:30
 
ive read on this forum certain products that speeds the time in between bonding. if u know what im talking about ace what products ec\xactly are their. and how fast is the recovery time
 
Zaino has a 'bonding-agent' that allows you to put multiple layers on in a day. I have not used it, just heard about it.
 
well. i detailed my car on friday around 5. did the whole paint and did all the trim, windows and wheel dressings for last. the following morning i added a new coat. wow! the car was the shinnyiest (if thats how u spell it) it has ever been. when the sun came out i could see every one at the red light just looking at the car. i felt soo proud. it rained later that day but the car just seemed to look perfect still. now its beeen a couple of days and the wheels are dirty, the tires are still black and the paint is pretty dusty. im going to wash it one of these days and plan on adding another coat. i was really happy with the results.

one more question. that zaino bonding agent that speeds up recovery time in between layering sealants. would it be ok to use it on nxt, even tho nxt isnt a zaino product?



nxt is the best wax/sealant known to me. i cant imagine anything better.
 
No. I think that is for use only with Zaino. Glad you like the NXT. That's what it's all about...finding something you like.
