Latest Microsoft Updates

I don't know about the rest of you but I get tired of these things. Every month Microsoft is releasing these updates. I don't even really know if I need them. I set updates to notify me but not down load. I then check and see if I want them and then download. This month as every month there is a malicious software removal tool in the update. I clicked the link on it and it took me to the Microsoft security site. The right up on this tool says it's a scanner. You can down load it every month or just go to the site and run the scan there. Now I'm no computer guru by any means but why would I want to down load this tool every month and use up hard drive space when you can run the scan right from the site? Am I missing something here?

Sorry, can't answer that till I find Zaino's factory... still looking. :lmfao

Couldn't resist.

So, first off it is a very small update relatively speaking and, I do believe it is being deleted after it is run each time, or at a minimum the new tool overrwrites the old one each month so as not to continually eat up hard drive space.

MS has a very muture process for delivering security updates. I know, I know, I know, there are people screaming all the time that this is spyware, or that if MS didn't have their head up their rear there would be no need, but since we choose to have MS operating systems, then hey, we should follow their recommendations for high priority security updates and patches.

OK, so it is being deleted or over written every run. Thanks.

As for their updates being spyware. The Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool and it's companion The Windows Genuine Notification Tool seem to be spyware to me. You need the validation tool to access the update site and do manual updates. The tool tells MS that you have a legit copy of Windows and they let you use the site. I can live with that. The Notification Tool though is a different story. This thing isn't mandatory yet from MS but they keep trying to sneak it in on my automatic updates. This thing installs on the computer and checks in with MS and if you don't have a legit copy of Windows you get annoying pop ups telling you that.
