When you are removing swirls, what size area do you like to work on at a time? I have heard 2x2ft is best, but that doesnt seem economical when time is money.

I'd rather take the time to do the work right than have an unhappy customer.

Good point. Also, if you are using meg's 83 and 80 on a car, or any other combination of 2 polishes, would you apply 83 on a section then 80 before moving one or do 83 one section at a time, then follow up with 80 one section at a time? Thanks for the help.

Can't wait for my Optimum as I have a truly horrid XK8 to restore mid week - cat scratches all over both front wings - ugh!

Great work Scott, especially on the S500. I remember working on the Ceramiclear. I didn't find it much harder than the new Audi paint to correct, but it still was tough.

Normally, I will stick with one polish and one pad for the whole car before moving on to a lighter polish or glaze and another pad. Less chance of picking up the wrong pad or polish that way. Occasionally though, I will work a section using two products to make sure it will turn out the way I want it to.



Andy-Just remember that Optimum is about as aggressive as DACP or SSR2.5...but you can work it a lot longer. You can remove up to moderate defects with OP with a PC and cutting pad but you would need a rotary to remove more severe problems.



Sean-I agree, it didn't seem any harder than Spies-Hecker paints. The fact that the DP SSE is designed for PC use probably helped me out a lot though.

I found the SL 55 AMG I did to be notably harder than my Audi's. However, I haven't put anywhere near the amount of time acclimating myself to that paint as with my own.

The SL500 I did was about as hard/easy to buff out as the S4 I did. I found the Ceramiclear polishes made an excellent dent in the Ceramiclear though. I guess the shaping of the cerrious abrasives is a true helper. I began with PO85RD on the SL500 and it took out more swirls than any other paint.
 
Awesome work as always Scott. Do you use the Meguiar's pads all the time? If so, what size are they and what kind of backing plate do you use? The reason I ask is because I'm looking to replace my pads in the near future and I wanted to see how you liked them. I currently use the 8.5" Meg's pads and love them but they all saw their last detailing action on my last job. It looks like you use the 6" pads and they seem more fitting for PC use.



That S500 is priceless. You have got to love a black Benz. Sweet work! :2thumbs:

I use the Meguiars 6.5" pads and the Propel 6.75" pads. It is just a lot easier to run down to my Meguiars distributor and pick up new pads than to order the Propel pads. I really like both. One pad I definitely order though is the blue Propel finishing pad-seems to be right in between the finishing and polishing pads Meguiars has and it works great with Clearkote's RMG and Klasse AIO.



The smaller pads work better with the PC, IMO not only because they don't bog the motor down as easily but also because they force you to work a smaller area at a time.
