Latest details, v1969 Dodge Dart, faded Miata and Stuf pics

2002 Diamond White Cadillac Deville. Real :cool: color! More white than a traditional pearl but still a pearl paint job. Easy detail, owned by a Korean War Vetern whose motor home I waxed yearly until he sold it.



I cleaned the interior with my usual water and Woolite solution, dressed the vinyl with Armor All and the leather with Turtle Wax Leather Conditioner (which I like because it is a thin liquid that doesn't clog the holes in ventilated seats).

The paint was excellent so I polished with the Euro version of Menzerna FP with a polishing pad and topped with Poorboy's EX-P. Very nice combo on light colors!

Here is a 1995 Mazda Miata I detailed last weekend. Typical of red Miatas, no clear coat and it was fading noticably on all horizontal surfaces.



This is a half/half shot where I had just gone over half the hood with Meguiars #80 Speed Glaze (twice) and a polishing pad. I think the half/half shots better show the oxidation problem better than a simple before shot.

I then went over the whole car with Wolfgang Sealant and Pinnacle Souveran. Hey, it was raining during much of the detail, all my other customers had cancelled, I wanted to experiment and the customer was very attractive!



At least the sun did come out and the owner had her daughter sweep the water away from the garage entrance so I could back out the car and take pics.

Now for the Stuf pics. Very nice liquid carnauba (review in product discussion), easy on, easy off (section at a time) and I noticed no streaking whatsoever. Similar in appearance to Clearkote's Carnauba Moose and Meguiars #26 (creamy wet instead of super reflective wet).

2003 BMW 745Li. #80 Speed Glaze and Vanilla Moose both using a polishing pad on the hood and trunk to remove some light scratches, the rest of the car was still in excellent shape from last polish and wax in April. Topped with Stuf. Notice how nice the metallic pops out of the hood!

You did that with #80?! Awesome! That BMW is one of the most beautiful cars out there IMO and you made it look even better.Thanks for reviewing stuf for us.
 
Now for the 1969 Dodge Dart. Customer traded his Harley Road King straight across for the Dart. Interior is original, obviously the paint isn't....but what a paint job! Very minimal orange peel. :up



Car has a 340 with highway gears, but he found a Dana rear end with high 3 gears. He plans on replacing the aging exhaust system but it already has headers, Edelbrock RPM intake and a Holley 650 Double Pumper and a mild cam. Drum brakes all around for now but he had a disc brake conversion kit along with new urethane bushings and larger anti-roll bars for the suspension.



Here is the engine. All it needed was a quick wipe down with Clearkote's Quikshine:

It started raining about an hour into the detail and didn't stop, so I had to take pics in his garage...but they still turned out pretty decent. I did most of the car with just Vanilla Moose with a polishing pad, but also needed to use #80 Speed Glaze on the hood to remove some light water spots and spider swirls. Topped with EX-P.

As much as I like detailing high end cars, not much gets me as excited as a clean muscle car like this Dart. It is really a beautiful car.
 
Scottwax- Thanks for posting pics of that Dart. Yeah, working on that one must've been a pleasure. Gee, it even has A/C!

All of em look amazing. I am definately liking the look of the red Miata. From my experiences compared to that, the Souveran deepened the look and added some wetness. I like :)



Nice work on the Caddy too. I have had some nice success with Klasse AIO/SG topped with WG on that color. The Klasse brightens it and WG adds some glow.

About 10 minutes or so. I don't think she was going to let me spend the night so I could wait for WG to cure completely. The car is a garage queen anyway, she drives an Accord most of the time. The Miata is just a weekend toy.
 
Sean-the Souveran did add depth, but probably not to the extent the picture shows. I had to put the car in her garage while it was raining and when she moved it out of the pics, she made sure it wasn't under the tree since it was still dropping water off it when the wind blew. Less to reflect off the paint, the deeper it will look. Reason #2384987359 that before and after pics can be tough.
 
Scott, the difference in the Miata between Speed Glaze and Vanilla Moose is noticable but, the result on the BMW using just glazes is remarkable. Is Stuf a straight caranuba or polymer? ***I see it's a Caranuba. I thought it seemed like a polymer.
 
Ryan-I've been taking care of the BMW since it was new. He wisely refused to let the dealer touch it, instead opting to have me wax it first and since that time. He never lets it get past about the 2 month mark without having me rewax it. I polish it about every other time so the exterior is pretty pristine and rarely needs deep polishing.



Stuf is a carnauba based wax but I don't know what other ingredients are in it. I do know it is very easy to use and seems pretty goof proof so far. What I don't know is how durable it will turn out to be, but I wash the BMW every week so I can keep a close eye on how well Stuf holds up.



The reason VM made a noticable improvement over #80 is that it continued to pull dead paint out of the Miata and even more finely polish it.

thanks for the tip on trying #80. have you tried to remove moderate swirls/scratches with it? if so, what pad and speed did you use? i used it this past weekend (CMA yellow pad) and although it took out a majority of swirls/spiderwebs, some were left and i couldn't completely remove them no matter how i worked them. thanks!

Makes me want to go detail a dart. My first car was a '72 dart swinger with a 340 swap. My dad has a '67 (styled like the '69 pictured) Dart V8 GT convertible with factory air and 47k miles. He also has a '63 dart with the original! factory paint. White exterior, red interior. Push button auto + slant 6.



I would love to get my hands on another as clean as that one!!

White, IMHO, is the hardest color to impress with but your work is amazing as usual! :D

hirosh-I use a Meguiars polishing pad with the speed on 6. You can also try the orange CMA cutting pad which is a touch more aggressive and doesn't leave any hazing. If that doesn't work, step up to DACP.



aqua-I normally don't use a spot remover and I forget the name of the one I get at my Meguiars distributer (not a Meguiars product). It works very well though, I'll try to remember to ask the next time I am there.
