Can I come to your town to wash my car? If I use the hose in the garage, does that count?



And let's not talk about the lawn...
 
I feel your pain,



when you have a rainwater-tank are you allowed to use that rainwater?



Once every ten years we have a drought during summer, and the only thing we may use for cleaning purposes(car, garden,...)is water from rainwater tanks.Each new building is obliged to have raintanks for at least1325gallons not for in case of droughts , but for in case of too much rain(!!!!!) so that the tanks are a buffer for the waste-water pipes.



I wish I could send our too much water over to you.

I lived in Boston for over 40 years and I can not remember ever having a water restriction. It must be pretty bad up there. This is where those coin self-washing bays become useful. Are they also restricted? If not, this may be a good alternative when the autopian detailing monkey starts jumping on your back...Watch out the sighs of detailing withdrawals; the desire to wash with a damp rag, waxing or QD'ing a slightly dirty car, taking public transportation because the car is just too dirty, etc. I wonder if there will be lines at the self-wash bays like there were for the gas shortage of the mid 70's.:scared

I can not imagine the horror of not being able to detail. Let's all pray for rain. You are welcome to come to my house a wash your car. Don't forget the seafood.. I'll supply the beer and wine.
 
Well Mayor Bloomberg is going to make an announcement

any minute. There are 4 levels of water restrictions. If he

says this restriction includes NO CAR WASHING I'm going

to be ONE P-Oed individual. I don't think I have one of those

regurgetated water power spray car washes near my.



First of all I think I'm one of the very few in NYC who get out there

with a hose and bucket. 99% all car owners in NYC pay

to get their car washed. So if they say NO CAR WASHING

how much reservoir water are they actually saving.

Probably neglegable. So why pick on us hobbiest.

Spite work I bet. Because whenever I wash my car the eyes

are right on me like I'm some sort of alien or something.

I am but that's besides the point.



Ever see Invasion Of The Body Snatcher's, these people

are saying " Join Us, Join Us, Join Us " and take your car to the Drive Thru.



Well ya gotta laugh. Huh!



Anyone have tips who are going thru restrictions already?

I know Jersey has it pretty bad.

I am going on 4 weeks with no wash in NJ. I think they should have a car washing day once a month at least in fairness so that people can protect their investments. The car has stayed pretty clean, surprisingly, but up close is covered in dirt spots..........THIS SUCKS!



ps...a few years ago this happened and we had a 20 minute downpour on saturday afternoon. I put on my bathing suit, filled a bucket up, grabbed the Z7 wash and washmitt, and washed the whole car down, and let the rain downpour rinse the car dry. My neighbors thought I was crazy...........
 
When Taxes get cut...they pick on the little guy first!!! But they keep all there administrators and state vehicles......When they do a water shortage they pick on us guys....

they were considering a water shortage in Maryland but I turned off the news and never found out..ha

Another example where the government jumps on the small guy with questionable measures in order to appear as though they have everything in control. Think of the outrage that would occur if this ban included commerial car care sites, mall cooling systems, public water displays, etc. Unfortunately to most car owners personal carcare is completely foreign and the forbidding of this activity will not greatly effect their voting activity during the next elections.

The long term conservation of potable water can only occur if cities and town repair their major source of loss... bad intrastructure ( leaky water mains ). Forbidding exterior home usage of water is just a thumb in the severely damaged dike.
 
rd_volvo I think were safe......... Just substitute your shower for a car washing. .A drought warning has been declared for the city’s water supply system. The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is urging residents and businesses to practice voluntary water conservation. Here are some water-saving tips from the DEP:



In the bathroom:



· Take short showers and save 5 to 7 gallons a minute.



· Fill the tub halfway and save 10 to 15 gallons.



· Install water-saving toilets, showerheads and faucet aerators. Place a plastic bottle filled with water in your toilet tank if you can’t switch to a low- flow toilet.



· Don’t run the water while shaving, washing your hands, or brushing your teeth. Faucets use 2 to 3 gallons a minute.



· Don’t use the toilet as a wastebasket, and don’t flush it unnecessarily.



· Repair leaky faucets and turn taps off tightly. A slow drip wastes 15 to 20 gallons each day.



In the kitchen/laundry:



· Run the dishwasher and washing machine only when full. Save even more by using the “shortâ€� cycle.



· Don’t let the water run while washing dishes. Kitchen faucets use 2 to 3 gallons a minute. Filling a basin only takes 10 gallons to wash and rinse.

I can't complain or say they are going after the little guy here. I live near the town resevoir and it is VERY low. They say if it drops another 4 ft, the water station won't be able to draw water...



I guess I'll hit Walmart and buy a couple cases of bottled water!

Actually rd volvo you picked the best time to have your car protected by a sealant ( Zaino). Since you will not be able to legally wash your car there is no better time to have a long lasting protectant on your paint. After several weeks with only carnuba wax and no washing....JEEZ :scared
 
Yeah we are facing the same problems here in the Phila area. We are allowed to wash cars I believe but the hose must have a shut-off etc. I think they will declare a drought emergency soon.....:nixweiss
 
Would it still be illegal if you went out to buy some distilled water and wash with that? Or some mountain spring water, since it isn't bottled locally?
 
South Florida had a drought and water restrictions all last year until August. We were allowed to water the lawn and wash the car between 4 - 8 AM and also wash cars between 5 and 7 PM. I learned the art of the Quick Detail. It's been dry season since December and they are expecting a wet summer because of El Nino, but that usually puts a damper on hurricanes. In fact, ever since I spent a small fortune on hurricane shutters, we haven't even had one hurricane scare....



If you guys want rain, just hire me to come up there and wash my car..... it never fails :(

Just pull the car on the front lawn and wash it there...he he he....



Too bad we have stones in our front yard living on the water so I can't get around it that way!



I also read you can't wash down boats after use or fishing, and you can't fill up swimming pools. This summer is gonna suck.

Try Protect All Quick and Easy Wash. You use about 1 gallon of water. Just add a couple capfuls of Q&E Wash and just wash and dry. You do a section at a time and dry it immediately. No need to rinse off your car, so you can fill up the bucket inside your house and wash in your garage. No one will be the wiser, except your car is clean.
