Klasse'd Red F150! (Huge pics)

My '99 Crown Vic had orange peel until I got in an accident and the whole car was stripped down and repainted. Had to pay a little extra for that but the results were definatly worth it. Orange peel sucks, glassy smooth paint rocks.:xyxthumbs

YoSteve,

Thank you for the compliments! As far as application tips are concerned, I personally found that the key to easy application is to massively dampen the applicator. I found that the instructions on how much you should dampen the applicator not enough for me by a factor of like 3. Personally, I first dampen the applicator with 4-5 squirts of QD, then the small amount of AIO or SG and apply it. And *everytime* I add more AIO or SG I spray the applicator again once unless it feels like its getting too damp. Sometimes I even lightly spritzed the surface to be applied very lightly once. The instructions say 1-2 squirts of QD every 2-3 applications and I found, from my first app of AIO that this was totally not enough. The app felt very dry and I felt like I was scrubbing my paint with it and constantly felt like I wasnt using enough Klasse. I think I actually added a couple thing clearcoat scratches the first application because of this, as the scratches are microthin and going left to right (how I applied the Klasse)

So, basically, the key for me was lots of QD lubrication and like everyone else says use the minimum amount as it'll be 10 times easier than areas where I knew I had put too much. The best part though is that with every layer I get better and better. :xyxthumbs

guys - realize that all "big-three" produced vehicles have orange peel in their paint. This is because they don't have the high-tech high-quailty paint processing that other manufacturers like Bently, Rolls, Jag, etc.... have. I've seen it on every car that has passed thru my hands detailing, including the C5 corvettes. Nothing can escape the evil orange peel. :wavey

Sorry but you're wrong...my GMC doesnt have any orange peel.

a GMC what, in what color?? And are you sure nothing was done to it?? or you just aren't recognizing it??

I'm not saying all cars have it at blatant levels, but it IS there to a degree on every car I've seen by a big-three manufacturer.

GMC Sierra, Burgundy metallic and nothing has been done to it. Factory paint and never been color sanded. My cousin has an '02 Z71 which I detailed for him and it doesnt have any orange peel either. And yes I can recognize paint flaws...I'm a painter.

FunSocalTiger, thanks for sharing your technique. I don't use QD for AIO but some do and will benefit from your experience. It's been tested that adding water to abrasives makes abrasives MORE abrasive, but QD may not apply if it provides extra lubrication, interesting.
