2004 Civic EX magnesium
Working on a Nissan Maxima '98 Brilliant Black, we had washed, clayed, SSR 2'd with a PC, and then AIO'd the car.
Then we applied SG and it was SUPER TOUGH to remove. I mean, folding the MF towel and applying elbow grease didn't take off anything but the upper most part of the covering. You could clearly see residue still remaining -- the car's black finish wasn't shining glossily beneth.
We had to use the towel without folding it and have our fingers/hands really dig down and rub to get the residue off. After a few minutes of cleaning maybe 1/4th of the hood, I said enough and tried a bit of water on the MF. That solved the problem, thank god!
Any comments? I don't think we used too much SG (bottle says 2 oz) and it looks like we used maybe 1-1.5 oz. Could it be the combination of an acryllic on this particular car's paint job (despite not being washed or waxed in 2 years, it wasn't rough even before we washed/clayed -- paint job looks very thick w/multiple coats), maybe really "gripping" the paint beneath?
Is this how a pure acryllic sealant works? I have used UPP before and no problems, this was the 1st time with SG and I haven't tried EX yet so let me know if this is normal. I trust a few spritzes of water is fine to remove residue without taking off the sealant itself.
