Klasse AIO on rotary screw up

So today I get the perfect SUV to re -create my Klasse on a rotary to see if I can figure out if I did anything wrong . Its an 8 year old Acura beat to hell , ready to be detailed and put up for sale.No miracles ,just a clay and wax job

I washed one panel with an orange degreaser , clayed with red claymagic( should be squeaky clean now!) and used the same pad and rotary with klassee ........ no buffing swirls/trails! So I did not one but 4 IPA wipedowns and still good!

Next panel I try the same exact process and still good to go.

So I figure what the heck just do the whole thing now that Im all set up and feeling confident again !

I get to the hood and did the same proccess and it looked very good but I noticed a very slight swirl mark in the sun ..hmmm.......so I get some dawn on a sponge and wash it down and Holly Molly tons of trails appear !

I got a couple pictures I will add so you can see....

So Im looking at my pad and its pretty beat up (its my beater car pad LOL)and think its probably time to toss and get my flex DA and go over it with a new pad and it looks great again , then I do the dawn wash just to make sure and its still looks fine .

Im not sure what Ive done wrong with using the rotary . Im very careful to overlap my passes 50 percent and keep the pad flat so Im at loss other then the beat up pad .
:(

Ive never had these kinds of marks before when using a rotary.......unless Im using a real agressive pad and compound and know it will need polishing down afterwards .

I will add the pics in a minute .....Heres the nasty looking hood after the dawn wash!

Heres the pad ,notice the lines in the pad ,maybe thats part of the problem?

Is the heat of the rotary drying the KAIO? Maybe use a "better" pad and keep it moist. IDK, I have never tried KAIO with a rotary. I'm just guessing.

How did you end up resolving the swirls?

No I keep the pad quite moist . Thats actually key in using it on a rotary (like what do I know LOL) and even mist the panels as I go.

I used my Flex DA with klassee and took care of it very nicely and finished the vehicle with the flex/klasse.

Im not going to try the rotary with the klasse anymore !

I love KAIO but maybe that's just not the right product for the task. I remember a member on another forum saying that the Cyclo didn't like KAIO for some reason. As I mentioned before Klasse residues (AIO or SG) can be very difficult to remove. It may be that even though you are keeping the pad moist the heat from the rotary is curing the product into those holograms.

Maybe the product to try for these situations is Optimum Poli-Seal; I think Dr. G formulates all his products to work well with a rotary.

Ive never really had trouble removing Klassee AIO unless Ive used to much or its too hot outside .And it wasnt hard to remove yesterday but you may be right about the heat being an issue ......

I am really starting to like Poli-seal but I think I am afraid to use an AIO on a rotary now that ive had problems twice I dont want to chance it. Having to take it off with dawn or IPA to double check my work really is defeating the AIO purpose and I will stick with my flex for now.

Detailing is a live and learn process. Now that you know what DOES work keep at that.

I always recommend a least gentle approach to accomplish the desired results.

Rotary is fairly aggressive but an overall time saver. If it is a heat issue might try using a wool buffing pad vs a foam pad? Not speaking from experience here with AIO but wool pads help a lot with heat.

IMO the Flex would be the best option for speed/safety and I havent picked up my rotary for polishing since I got my Flex.

Thanks for the suggestion but I think Im done experimenting LOL And will stick to my flex!

I just am so glad I figured out what happened and wasnt doing all my cars that way! What a nightmare I would be having now if I had !
