King of the ring

Deanski, don't forget about the freaken heat. Those cars get hot as hell and if you wear shorts, make sure you don't touch your leg on the exhaust when getting out. Other than that the adjustable foot pedals are pretty cool.

Reminds me of my L-88 Vette I had! Side pipes, not much carpeting, big 427 engine with M22 tranny and 4:11 rear. Loud, hot and yes, I've tatooed or branded a few women back in the day when they got their leg too close to the side pipe.

This car was setup for the track so no wonder it did well with all the items added and support team to dial it in. I'd do well with that support as well. So would Walter Rohl:woot2:

It's an old story, think in August.

No one has yet tested a Bugatti Veyron on that track? I think that car could easily beat the Viper time.

Actually you are wrong on all accounts again....there was no factory support .. the srt team used there own funds to ship the acr to the ring and rent the track for the day.. the driver had not driven the acr before and had no practice in the acr YET AND MOST important the srt team still had the balls to invite the media (R&T) to document the event with a a lot on the line... remember Porsche, nissan and the zr1 team spend months in the seat preparing for a nurburgring attempt

The acr broke the record on just its' fourth pass after just one suspension alteration...

Also the gears are tall , nowhere near 4:11, the youtube vid shows the viper mostly in 2nd/3rd

i do not doubt the fact that u have branded a few women

regards:geez

So when was this article then? And when did the event take place?

The "SRT" team is really financed through which company?:hmph:

Still do not see a Viper winning in ALMS yet, and that race is based on similar cars in GT class. GT1 has always been a Vette (two from the team against each other) and GT2 between Porsche and some other car maker in Italy:grinno:

I did enjoy watching one Viper run around the track at Lime Rock when I was there, loud as hell, but the driver didn't have a good handle on the track.

those are great pics. but it's still a dodge. granted the baddest Dodge ever but still

Yep, but then again, they keep improving, just as Chevy did with the Vette. Almost pulled the trigger on a new Z06, but once in the cabin, the interior was so cheap, terrible noise and heat. However, for the $$ you can't beat a Z06 if your into serious muscle cars. Just like a Viper, these are special cars and have a unique space in some of our hearts and minds.

Once you start passing into serious money, most look abroad to cars that have a long history in both racing and touring.

It's still funny how Porsche's 911 still can beat some of the worlds best cars on tracks when you have an engine way past the rear axle. Just defies laws of physics. Too bad they do not ramp up the Cayman. Mid engine and handles very very well.

FBL in Danbury did though, putting the same 3.8 X-51 engine from a 911S, use Cross coilovers, PCCB (ceramic brakes), cage, seats, and other go fast goodies. What a fine car to drive!

On the Porsche GT2 side, Cargraphics and Techart both have some serious cars that will smoke anything on a track.

Same for Nissan with the GT-R, not the best looking, but one hell of a car for not so much money. There are a few that have modded the GT-R to some serious levels!

Ah well, the time at the ring will be broken soon once again.

Deanski
