Keeping MF towels soft

Everytime I hand wash these towels with Dawn(blue colored one) and let it air dry it always feels stiff and not really soft. Is the Dawn too much for it or should I just go with a mild detergent such as Tide? I'm not too fond of putting mf towels in the drier because of lint.

The first question is: what brand of microfiber are you using? PakShak, Neatitems, Wal-Mart/K-Mart towels, etc.?

I've not had a single problem with the PakShak towels losing their softness, yet have experienced what you describe with NicSand towels. That could be part of the problem.

Also, I do not hand wash my towels. They are washed in the washing machine with other like-quality microfiber towels.

Linting has not been an issue either, as I set the dryer on low for a short period of time. You may find that the end result is a softer towel if you dry them in the dryer.

I'm with articwhite on this one. You can put them into the dryer on low for a short time after they have air dried. Fluffs them up and makes them soft again. The type of MF you have have also affects this. The cheaper the towels usually means it will become stiffer faster.

I don't air dry my towels (too lazy) I just stick them into the dryer at medium/timed heat for an hour. I gave up washing my towels on the gentle cycle. It just leaves my towels soaked in water and not totally clean. I put them in the cotton/sturdy setting....

You might be having a problem with soap residue in the towels. Try washing them in the washng machine using a laundry detergent. I use liquid, but if you use powdered then disolve the detergent in the water before adding the towels. Select the extra rinse option (or just rinse twice). I line dry my towels and don't have a problem.

Good luck.
