Keeping brake rotors rust free...Suggestions?

the next time..[instead of cad plating].. buy zinc washed rotors.never any rust and not expensive.

I was advised that the cad plating would hold up better in the winter. As my mechanic didn't make any money off the plating I figured it was honest advice (and the guy in question seldom steers me wrong). We'll see how it goes.

Mine are Zinc coated:

My thinking is: If you go the inexpensive (yet high quality) Napa brake rotor route, just clear coat the hub, or paint the hub black. Also, if your rotors are relatively small compared to the wheel size, just paint the hub, as it will reflect less light onto the more visible rotor surfaces.

If you are forking out the dough for slotted or cross-drilled rotors, which look very cool but may or may not improve performance (that is a debate for another day), buy some with a rust free treatment. It'll only cost you like 20% more. Another added bonus is that some of the anti-rust treatments give the rotors a slightly gold hue, which adds to the cool factor.

I've used just about everything otc: flitz, luster lace, megs, mothers, nev-r-dull. they all have their purposes, but the metal polishes just didn't do it for clearing rust from the rotor hubs (and around the circumference) and calipers, and I wasn't about to break into my eastwood products on brakes. rather, abrasive wheels worked for the rust. keep in mind that the brakes to which I'm referring were fairly heavily encrusted. I don't have any photos and the girlfriend has my digital camera, but I could use my phone if you're really interested.
