KBM with Flex 3401 anyone?

There may already be a thread on this somewhere, but if so I couldn't find it.

Is anyone using the KB method with the Flex 3401?

Seems all the posts I've read about it are using either the PC, UDM, or G110.

Just curious.

It works with a 3401. I've had great results on a black GMC Envoy and a black VW 2003 GTI Anniversary Edition, using the KBM.

Just don't press so hard that you get interference between the backing plate and the felt ring, much less between the backing plate and the metal housing. That means to take it especially easy whenever the pad/machine is working at an angle.

would I be good if I were to sell my makita 9227 to come up with money for a flex 3401? when it comes to correction and applying wax, all in one machine?

After I starting using the KBM, I tried it with the 3401. I did not care for it at all. IMO the 3401 has too much torque to apply adequate pressure and maintain control. I sold my 3401 after that.

I think that David Strum (weekend warrior) has some experience using the 3401 w/ the KBM.

I traded my Flex for a Cyclo, for final polishing using FFII it is great! I'm looking at trying M105 with it just ti see what it can do. I currently us all Menzerna with a PCXP.

I know, why haven't you tried 105? Well I tried V1 with a Makita and never got the technique down. I'm just taking my time trying the V2.

While my experience worked out differently, I can certainly understand that. The Flex 3401 *does* have a fair bit of "recoil" to it. I was actually a bit surprised (pleasantly) at how I acclimated to it.

People had sure better get their pad priming right, at least if using any "grabby" pads.

Yeah...I haven't chatted with him for a while, but weekend warrior and I were discussing Flex techniques *very* similar to the (not yet mainstreamed) KBM method shortly after we bought ours. We'd both been frustrated in our attempts to apply pressure with our PCs, but found the Flex resolved our problems well enough to supplant our rotaries for the most part. Last I heard weekend warrior had basically retired his rotary in favor of the Flex.

It sticks in my memory as he and I had pretty much identical experiences/opinions about it, despite the differences in what we're usually working on.

The Flex works well with the KBM. I have used it with GREAT success on hard C5 Vette clears with an Orange LC pad, and M105. If I am working on softer and medium clears, I just used the new PCXP with the KBM.
