Just wonderin'

Swirls?!?! NNOOOOOOO!!!!!
I was just wonderin' (Hmm, that sounds like a title... ;) ) Why can't a PC pad system be made that works like the rotary? A direct bolt on rather than the quick connect. I understand that the quick connect and Velcro® systems are handy features when switching from cutting to polishing pads and back, such as in a production environment, but is it feasible to have a direct connect "sturdy" system, possibly for when you might be doing serious marring removal? For someone that isn't on a tight dead line? I haven't seen any around, if they are in existence.
Just wondering. Thanks.

Edit: I maybe should clarify... I was meaning a full line of bolt on pads. I realize Porter Cable sells replacement bolt on pads, but it's just their white one. I was wondering more about cutting pads.

why would you want the expence of a backing plate with each pad???? If your looking to do major correction with the PC you should be thinking eslewhere.. 4 inchers only take you soo far

When I first got my PC I ordered several of the white pads that come with the machine. I don't think I've ever seen any other color or type that screws on the PC. I will say that after learning there were other systems out there that made it much easier to change pads I went straight to it. That taking off and putting back on thing starts to suck after awhile.

Meguiar's does make a version of its W-8006 that have a screw-on post like those stock PC pads do....

Reason for wondering was that "sometimes" the Velcro® fails (either tears, or the pad can "come loose" from the plate), and I haven't tried the 2000 system yet. I was wondering why the rotary sytem of bolting on wasn't more popular/available. Like with wool pads... It holds tight and the bolt is recessed enough that you don't need to be too worried about marring.
And as to the "factory replacement" pads, I was wondering why there wasn't anything other than "polishing" pads available.
I was thinking that maybe the Edge had made some at some point, but there was some flaw that I hadn't thought of.
Again, just wondering. ;)
