I have an mk2 and have not done the washer mod. With proper technique you`ll be fine without it.

I took the washers out, and haven`t looked back.
Make sure to keep the shroud lightly greased though, or you`ll hurt rotation, and burn up the shroud.
I should noted that I use the Rupes system as it was designed.. Absolutely love it.

Congrats! Welcome to the Mark II club! I really don`t think a washer mod is necessary on the Mark II`s. Which pads are you going to go with?
I already have the Rupes 7 inch pads ready to roll!

I put the washer in the second I took my MKII out of the box. For me it`s not about the added power, it`s about having a free spinning back plate to blow out pads. Getting the full potential of the tool is just an added perk.
