On parts of the hood and on a spot on the fender there is what looks like fog on the car, but it will not wipe off. It's like a light hazy spot. Is this common on something that has just been painted? Thanks for the help.

Pics sure help us figure it out better, but I realize that's not always possible...

What you're describing can be a few things, and let's hope it's something easy. They may have compounded or wetsanded the car before it was cured enough, and this can cause "die back" or a dulling in the paint, in certain areas (or all over). If they had to correct a few areas where debris or such got on the fresh paint, they would have had to compound or wetsand those places. This is easily remedied via some compound & polish once the paint has hardened (should be by now) You may want to try that yourself, - use some medium grit polish like 3M Finesse-It F/M or even a cheapie product like KIT Scratch-Out on the area(s) and see what happens. If that clears it up , you're done.

The one other thing that comes to mind is worse, called "solvent pop", and unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about that except repaint. It makes the paint look "foggy" when it happens. It occurs when solvent (thinners/reducers) becomes "trapped" in the paint film at the time when the surface layer skins over too fast, preventing their evaporation into the atmosphere, and it leaves microscopic whitish pinholes in the clear as the solvents push through to the surface.

If the shop used the wrong temp reducers/activators (too fast ) for the ambient conditions, or didn't allow the correct "flash times' between coats, then it can happen.

I hope it's not that. :(

They could also have used some type of solvent on the not fully cured paint in some places, creating the dulling. The abrasive route should fix that as well. Best of luck.

It was in the "oven" I guess is what you would call it this morning. It was also raining out. Could getting it wet not long after it got done "baking" cause that. The foggy.thing you described describes it best.

Here is the best picture I could get:

Whenever I took a picture the light kept playing tricks on me. The spots all around are mud, because they are redoing our road, and its been raining so its muddy. I have not touched that part of the car either. I think I'm gonna take it back up to the shop tomorrow and see if they will fix it.

Hard to say for sure, but the relative humidity/dewpoint and temp play a big role in how the solvents flash cure. I would think the baking gave them an 80% cure, which is usually enough to compound etc. Then water won't hurt it. Other things like compounds and solvents might though, ( temporarily and fixable)at that state of cure.

It's certainly a possibility that caused it, because I've had it happen to me with changing weather conditions and rushing a bit with my flash times. But I'd be nuts to say it's definitely that with certainty.

Fast thinners in high humidity ( i.e. rainy weather) cause blushing too, but primarily in acrylics and lacquer. What type of paint is on the car? (base/clear or single stage?)

Wow, you're fast! Thanks for the pic...

Unfortunately, I can't tell if that area is being reflected via flourescent light (I see it mirrored overhead) and magnified or if that color contrast is what your eye actually sees, so it's hard to tell the exact nature of that milkyness. Solvent pop is so microscopic that I'd only be able to tell in person. If they ran a buffer there, (and from the swirls it shows they did) and did it too soon, that may be your problem. I hope so.

Try some polish as I mentioned, and see if there's any change at all.

I'm not real sure about the type of paint, I am going to ask them tomorrow morning when I go up there. I would rather have them fix it, that way I don't possibly make it worse. Those swirls also piss me off. There are NONE like that anywhere on the rest of my car. It tickes me off that I had even told him how anal I am about my car. I even told them not to wash it when they got done.

Ok, that helps, what you just said. It sure sounds like they ran a rotary over that and likely the other spots, for reasons of which may include what I spoke about prior. I *hope* it isn't solvent pop haze and they thought they could buff it out! They couldn't be that unknowledgeable about what they do, could they? Hopefully no.

Yeah I hope they aren't. My girlfriends dad owns the dealership that was done at, and I am ready to raise all kinds of hell.

It's probably not 'pop', i'm sure they'll be able to buff it to match the rest of the car. Good luck, and ...NICE 'Stang! :)

Thanks for the compliment. I didn't really know which forum to put this in, so I figured this one fit best. Thanks for all the help.
