Just wanted to say I just received Optimum Polish as well as Hyper Compound. I only had a chance to go at it for about ten minutes, but boy does this stuff seem very easy to use. This is the first time I've ever done polishing. I tried a spot of Polish, which I could tell wasn't going to cut it on the scratches of my 11 year old Cutlass, so I stepped it up to the HC with an orange pad. It looks to be so simple it's great. Worked it for a couple minutes, and as it's been said, you can see it start to go from a whitish haze to a more clear look so you know it's ready to whipe clean. Get a MF and whipe it off, easy as cake with no dusting. Great stuff!

You're correct, if you go for the Edge 2000 system you won't need a backing plate as it is sandwiched in between the two foam pads. You'll need the adapter that goes on your PC or rotary if you had one. Optimum and the XMT lines are both excellent, you won't go wrong with either choice.

If I were new, I would go with the XMT. You cant beat a video :D

Ah didnt see you were going with the edge series. No need for a backing plate on those :)

If I were you, I would go with Optimum. I have the XMT line and Optimum Polish. I use the Edge 2K on rotory with Optimum. I have yet to use Optimum on a PC, but the XMT line surely isnt very aggressive. I like the XMT line ok, but I think as you progress as a detailer, you'll be happier with Optimum. Just my .02. Hope it helps.
