JSATEK - 1988 BMW 635CSI - got swirls? part 2

SCUBASTEVO: Its a reflection on the top of the bumper cap from the ovehead lighting.

FINAL PROCESS:

ONR wash

Meguiars M105 2x with LC Yellow foam on Makita

2000 grit wet sand on roof and fender to test.

Menzerna Intensive Polish 1x with wool on Makita

Menzerna 106ff 1x with LC orange foam on Makita

Zaino Z-PC 1x with LC white on Porter Cable

Zaino Z-6 wipe down

Zaino Z-5pro / ZFX / Z-8 mix 3x - since it wasnt perfect, it needed depth and shine

Z-CS 1x

Poorboys wheel sealant on wheels

Zaino Z-16 on tires and trim

I changed from M105 to Intensive Polish as it gave me longer working times. M105 has a short working time. This paint needed the extra time on the panel, not the cut, hence the heat and smoke from the pads.

I think the car improved greatly, not show ready. the checking and cracking under the clear prevented a perfect end result.

So what did you eventually do to that front driver quarter panel to remove those defects? Or is the lighting just not showing them?

That is still an amazing turnaround.

And flat black and semi-gloss black spraypaint should seriously be weapons in every detailers arsenal. Spraying the fenderliners was one of the touches I was always super proud of, but never talked about.

This site has ruined me, my only objective was to make a 1998 look like a 2008.

I feel we are ALL guilty of this now. If it isn't perfect, we aren't happy. Whether perfection is actually attainable, or not.

It's the lighting. The vertical scratches are still there but can bee seen under the halogen lighting as they are a close match to the color fo the car.

The driver rocker panel and passenger quarter are still problem areas.

Hello All,

As the owner of this BMW and an avid follower of this board, let me say I am flabbergasted at the results. I found Justin on the board after seeing his incredible work on some very fancy cars. I phoned him and he was super eager to help me out. I knew that this would not be perfect and it might get just a little better. Well, he took it from an awful looking finish to one that is totally respectful, at least in non-concours terms. The finish is smooth, glossy and greatly corrected. Also, Justin thanks so much for your good nature and total professionalism. I learned so much just from speaking with you, and obviously your talent is simply awesome.

For anyone in the tri-state area looking for a high end detail, Justin is the man. You can always contact me on this board for a personal reference.

Also, look for me and my M Coupe sometime in the future-I promise the paint is in fabulous condition!

all the best,

Jeff

Milarsky- Welcome to Autopia!

That's just a *wonderful* car you have there, and yeah, you sure picked the right guy to detail it :D

jastek- Heh heh, yeah, I know exactly what you mean about the heat radiating off the panels :o I take it you ran the Makita at some pretty high speeds, huh? I'm up around 2K for some of the work on the M3.
