jiffy lube = thieves! *video proof*

Thats why I service my own vehicle what sorry bastards

I would like for that video to be on every news channel possible. Shutting them down would be the best thing that could happen.......and I mean Nationwide!

Jiffy Lube here didn't change my oil filter the last time I had the oil changed there. I did my own oil change the next time and found a date witten on the filter from six months previous to the current date, and matching the date of the second to last oil change I had done there! :grrr

I too think that should be on every news channel. It may keep Jiffy Lube from doing business and keep other shops honest. I have a feeling this goes on more than we realize!

Good catch imacarnut and thanks for posting that.

Yeah everyone thinks I'm insane for doing my own mechanical work. Looks like paying some chain shop to do it is a 56% chance of getting screwed.

They're all crooks. Hang 'em all

Me too, I don't trust any of the dealerships around here, let alone any of the chain car maintence centers. I've read way to many horror stories about a car coming in one way, and coming out another way. At least if I mess up my car I only have my self to blame.

thanks guys for the positive comments, and if i find anything else like this (i frequent other boards as well) i will post it! :hifive:

That's absolutely repulsive! Thievery and lying! They deserve nothing less than going out of business! That just makes me so angry, but I'm glad I've never used them, and always done my own oil work.

Value Brakes are the same way though. A story popped on them here in town not too long ago, basically ripping people out of money.

Whatever happened to good ole fashioned honesty and integrity?

Wow, I have taken my Honda Civic to them for the past 8 years for routine oil changes and radiator flush. I hang out and watch the guys so I have never had a problem. I even see the oil draining out and new filter going in. They're nice and know me by now. The guy who installs the filter is still the same guy from 8 years ago.

NEVER had one problem. Perfect experiences, fast, and cheap enough for me with the coupon I get evey 3 months.

Still, that doesn't take away from the absolute thievery that occured!!! Scum bags! This occurs all over with local and chain shops and not just with the auto repair business. They just happended to get caught.

Wow, that sucks! I've taken my car to jiffy lube several times the past couple of years for their "full service" oil change. I think it's time for me to learn how to do maintenance myself.

Wow, I love when guys like that get nailed.

I started changing my own oil, filters etc., years ago. If it's something I can't do, I am with the truck the entire time.

I'm passing the link on to my friends.

thanks.

That's why they are known in the industry as "IFFY lube" . I used to change oil at a Lincoln-Mercury dealer. I noticed one of the other guys would write the date and his initials on every filter he installed. When I asked him why, he replied that some customers would say that he never did the oil change and this would prove otherwise. I figured it couldn't hurt so I started to do the same thing. Wouldn't you know, a few weeks later the service writer comes in and asked if I had done the oil change on a car. I had done it, and the customer was out on the drive raising a fit. So, I go out to talk to him and he is pissed! He swears up and down that we didn't do the oil change. Rather than argue with him, I asked him if I could show him instead. I pulled his car onto a rack, put it up in the air and showed him the brand new filter with my initials and the date. I also showed him the fresh grease I had put on the steering stops. He was very apologetic and was very loyal after that. One of the best habits I ever learned in the shop, I initialed ANY filter after that. Fuel, air, oil... the sharpie worked on them all.

I now work in parts at a Ford dealer, and I get to see some of the jobs other shops have screwed up, that we have to fix.

Let's just say I wouldn't get my oil changed at Wal-Mart if it was free! They are very good for our business.

This is news? Before half of you were born, 60 Minutes did a hidden camera expose on the interstate gas station guys who would cut your belts while checking the oil, squirt oil under the car and tell you that your shocks were blown, etc. Back then I worked with an ex-auto mechanic who told me about the fake valve jobs he used to do for the used-car dealer down the street. Steam clean the engine, smear some fresh gasket sealer around, and voila! Dealer could chalk the window with "fresh valve job!". Auto repair ripoffs have been around as long as cars have.

i think i may have to start putting some sort of indicator/mark on my oil filter as well, to make sure. better safe than sorry... :xyxthumbs

I worked at Advance Auto when I was in college a few years ago. The people at Jiffy Lube are less competent that the people I worked with at Advance. Several times I had customers, especially female, come in wanting their car checked out. Advance wasn't really supposed to do this, but I'd usually do it anyway. One girl came in and said she'd had her car serviced at the Jiffy Lube across the street. They said she needed almost $1000 worth of work done. The car (can't remember exactly what kind) only had about 40k miles. They told her she needed belts, hoses, fuel injector service, transmission service, and a NEW RADIATOR. To top it off, they didn't even change the oil which was what she originally went in for. There are several more stories, but you get the idea.

As ashamed as I am that I worked at Advance (atleast I got a 20% discount), I'm more ashamed that I applied at the same Jiffy Lube before Advance. There was absolutely nothing on the application dealing with cars. I might as well have been applying at Walmart of McDonalds. I do 90% of the service to mine, and the other 10% gets done by me and my fiancee's father, who is a mechanic full time. I wouldn't trust Jiffy Lube to vacuum my floormats.
