I worked at Advance Auto when I was in college a few years ago. The people at Jiffy Lube are less competent that the people I worked with at Advance. Several times I had customers, especially female, come in wanting their car checked out. Advance wasn't really supposed to do this, but I'd usually do it anyway. One girl came in and said she'd had her car serviced at the Jiffy Lube across the street. They said she needed almost $1000 worth of work done. The car (can't remember exactly what kind) only had about 40k miles. They told her she needed belts, hoses, fuel injector service, transmission service, and a NEW RADIATOR. To top it off, they didn't even change the oil which was what she originally went in for. There are several more stories, but you get the idea.
As ashamed as I am that I worked at Advance (atleast I got a 20% discount), I'm more ashamed that I applied at the same Jiffy Lube before Advance. There was absolutely nothing on the application dealing with cars. I might as well have been applying at Walmart of McDonalds. I do 90% of the service to mine, and the other 10% gets done by me and my fiancee's father, who is a mechanic full time. I wouldn't trust Jiffy Lube to vacuum my floormats.
