Jacksonville (Florida) Jazz Festival

Jon, not only do you have impeccable taste when it comes to detailing, it expands to music as well! :bigups. Although he doesn't usually play that far north, maybe one year my dad can play at that gig. Thanks for posting. Jazz is big time in my family!

Nice! Lots of big-name acts on that list. I'll be seeing Sonny Rollins here in October as well; also seeing Branford Marsalis this Thursday. He's playing with the Michigan State jazz ensemble, which I was a member of a few years back (I played alto/tenor sax in various jazz groups throughout high school/college). MSU's jazz faculty has a laundry list of folks they've performed/studied with ranging from Wynton Marsalis/Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, to Dizzy Gillespie, James Moody, et al. so I've been fortunate to be exposed to some real legends over the years.

What does your dad/family play, Bill?

Charlie, my dad has been playing the drums since like forever. He has his own trio andplays regularly with it locally. He's not a jazz giant by any means but his passion for the drums is like my passion for detailing. I'm delighted to see some mutual interest in jazz here on Autopia

That's awesome Bill! Glad to hear he's able to play gigs on a regular basis like that; I sometimes wish I were still active in that capacity like I used to be.

One thing I can say from my own experience of having both obsessions (jazz/detailing), I've more than once cringed when looking at a piano under stage lights and seeing the black finish all swirled up :chuckle:

LOL ! I think of the original Menzerna polishes for pianos! I told the keyboardist in my dad's trio about them.
