I have 3 layers of SG on my hood on my GN. I let it dry for an hour on each coat. Man is it hard to remove! I even used qd and two MF towels. I looked at the car in the sun and saw sreaks and haze residue on the hood. Will the sun make the residue easier to buff off? The car looked stunning in the shade and the sun. Its just those streaks and residue. I think i put on too much. I even put a nickel size dab on half the hood and another nickel dab on the other half. My hood is pretty big so thats why i did that. I know you are not supposed to see a haze when applying SG but I sure did see a haze as soon as I applied it. Is it supposed to disappear as soon as you rub the surface?

When you apply that nickel size dab don;t you begin to see a slight haze as soon as its on the surface?

It will haze a little when you apply it. Its pretty thin stuff to begin with so it will be hard to see when its on there. If you can see it haze then you are using a little too much. That's not really a bad thing, it just makes it tougher to remove.

One idea that I liked was when you are removing the SG try doing it with a wet MF towel and then follow up with a dry one. I've found that when I was getting streaks I could get rid of them by going over the area with a wet towel anyway. I should have been starting off with one all along. Maybe give that a try and see if it works.

Read about the wet towel followed by dry for SG and have tried a few coats using this technique. It’s so easy it’s criminal. I just wonder if the same amount of sealant is left behind on the surface as buffing it out dry?

apply a layer in the amount that you would do layer of chapstick on your lips super thin, imagine using lotion instead. You would need way less and there would be more spreading action going on to get thinner coats.

Here's some tips (besides using some water a spritzing your towel and/or your car to get the haze off).

-try to apply it in the shade or when your paint is cooler, your car is supersensitive to light due to its color

-use your breath to try to get some hard to buff out spots (breathe on the car till it hazes and wipe it off)

-use a sponge applicator to try to apply as less as possible.

-try applying in smaller sections

-wait longer before buffing off

-apply in slightly overlapping back and fourth motions so the surface is visible even and thin

really you just have to keep at it until you refine your technique

if you really feel that it's not coming off, then just wait a half an hour and just wash your car. Then dry it and apply another layer. The washing won't take off the last coat but will certainly take off the haze.

Post number #34 in this thread: PAC and TID Status update?

I would like to take this time to finally address all of the members of TID. While this is perhaps slower coming than some would have liked, I ask for understanding of the situation at hand. It has been a very long month. I have spent the past 4-5 weeks dis-mantling PAC. It has been a tough task to say the least. I have likened it to going to a funeral that last for thirty days.

I wanted to reflect on my experience here and all of the friends I have made. The final decision to end PAC as a business was one, while hard to make, was felt necessary for people that had much at stake. Some people agreed and others did not. Ultimately the decision was made and I felt a responsibility to see the task through.

The realities are that when I came to this company, on a business level, it had issues I nor anyone one else involved with the ownership were aware of. Over time and with a steep learning curve, we did make positive changes and we did have some successful additions, Blackfire, Meguiar's, TID, Todd, Angelo as well as some long needed advertising ventures. All of this was not enough to change the tide of the slow economy and the expense of running a business like this.

As to the closing of the business and the and the manufacturers we have all come to know and love, none are being left in the cold, (regardless of what some may say). We are working with all of them to have them paid in full by the end of this month, (a unique concept these days of companies going out of business).

One of the successes we enjoyed was of course Blackfire. Over the course of the past three years we worked very hard to make more people aware of this line of products. I believe, still one of the best available. I have arranged to have a hand in its future and hope to continue to make it a respected line of products in any way I am able. Through an agreement between myself and Palm Beach Motoring Group, I have insured its availability and a viable future. While some may see this as a ?cop-out? on my part, it isn't. It was a decision made after much thought and consideration. Should some still choose to believe otherwise, I of course cannot change what people choose to believe. Look at all of the BS on forums today... someone, somewhere, thinks they have all the answers.
With Todd overseeing the direction and quality of the line, I am confident that with his passion and the tools available to him, the line will only become stronger. Far stronger than I could do by myself.

That brings me to TID. Something I am quite proud of. We grew this community to over 4500 members in a relatively short time. We had very few drama issues, many open product and process discussions and I made one heck of a lot of friends. I probably loved this part of the business the most for the interaction with all of you. It is my understanding that TID will go on hiatus for some time until an ultimate decision can be made as to its future. If you have anything here you want to save, you should get it soon. I hopefully will see some of you down the road, God bless and take care.

The last item I would like to address is I would like to personally thank Bob McKee for his support in this incredibly stressful time. While again some may find this weird or self-serving, think what you want. It has been an interesting lesson for me. Bob has been one of the most professional and supportive people of anyone I have had to deal with in the past month. I think it comes from the fact that until you own a business like this and truly understand how hard it is to run one, much less be successful at it, that you can fully appreciate and understand the true meaning when one fails. For this I am thankful and have no problem is saying I have new found respect for him.

Again, thank you all, see you down the road and God bless.

Truth in Detailing has been a home to me for so long and it was exciting to watch it grow. I have made many friends and learned so much from being a member and from being under Jack's employ.

Palm Beach Motoring Group has purchased all remaining content of Classic Motoring Accessories, including Blackfire, Eimann Fabrik, Black Baron, the Big Blue, as well as over stock including brands like Autoglym. In unique situations such as this, which were the result of abrupt circumstance, we feel it is best to focus on one project at a time in order to do it correctly. Brands such as Eimann Fabrik and Black Baron will be put on hiatus until we can give them the attention they deserve should it prove viable.

Truth in Detailing, because of its small stature but closely knit community, will also be placed on hiatus this upcoming Monday, August 8th. I honestly don't know what, if any, the future is in regards to the forum. As such we will be building a Truth In Detailing archive at AutopiaForums.com. Many members have already signed up and the forum has taken on a direction of information sharing that made this place great. I personally invite anybody who wants to keep the Spirit of Truth alive to join us over there.

Additionally, in my new position of the /Director of Development for Blackfire USA, I am working around the clock to make the dreams Jack and I had for Blackfire come true. The line is available at autopia-carcare.com. Please check with us often to see the updates to the line and store as we move forward. I was chosen to be the representative of this transition because I bring the history of Classic Motoring Group/ ProperAutoCare.com to the company and look ahead to continuing that tradition in a new location.

Thank you everybody for your respect on this matter and join me in thanking Jack Kruer for EVERYTHING is had done.

Best,

Todd

Good bye TID! I have really enjoyed this forum. The atmosphere of this forum was like no other I visited to this point. Thank you to all who participated. I look forward to new ventures and opportunities. I think I have a good fit at AF and look forward to seeing you all there. Some of you aren't there yet, so I will drop in on other forums from time to time to enjoy your work.

Thanks for the info Jack and Todd.

Vaya con Dios!

I think you have a perfect fit. To be honest this is such a bittersweet moment because this place has always been such a great place. I hope others will give AutopiaForums a shot because it really is a continuation of what many of us started here.

That said, enjoy Truth for the Weekend, look at old posts, copy and save what you need. There will be an archive at AutopiaForums but the logistics have not been determined to this point.

Best

Todd

Thank you Jack, Todd, Angelo and of course the site admins for all you have done for your customers and TID members. The TID forum has been a breath of fresh air (with the occassional fart which was quickly exhausted). If TID returns, so will I.

For Jack - I always knew you are a man of high principles and integrity. Your actions on how to handle the situation is rare indeed - you are a great mentor for startup entrepreneurs. I wish you well in whatever venture you dive into.

For Angelo - your customer service has been top-of-the-line, as good as Nordstroms. I know you will be an asset to any company you join (or even your own business - hint, hint). Thanks for all you did for your customers!

For Todd - you have unselfishly shared your knowledge over the years to uplift the skills of thousands, including me, and I thank you for that. I'll miss your input during chat nights but I'll follow your leadership on the other forum.

I crawled TID last month but I'll do it again this weekend (it took all night) as I don't want to lose this wealth of information.

Thanks again for raising the bar!

Regards,
GEWB

best wishes jack and to all of those that made pac the company that it was...

This is truly a sad day for me. I know that I have not been on line much lately. The new job is taking up a lot of my time, giving me little time for my true passion. That does not mean that I love TID any less then I always have from the first day I found this site. Jack, Tod, Angelo and all of the awesome members here at TID built a home for me. I learned a lot, and I have laughed a lot with everyone here. It was always so refreshing to come here when I needed a lift. People like Tod, who was always so willing to share his expertise, have tought me so much about this passion of ours. There are so many others as well who through their amazing details and write-ups, I have learned a great deal from.

I am sad to see TID go, but hope it will be back.

I will join AF and hope to see all of my friends there.

Thought I would get in a final thought, hope everyone is able to secure a nice job also thank you Jack for including Richie and myself at dinner in Vegas last year for the SEMA show as it was enjoyable!!.
