What is with all the hate lately?



I really don't see the point of everybody hating on Mel. He was obviously trying to make a contribution to the site and that doesn't seem to be respected. I believe Tunch is not posting due to similar reasons.

hate on mel - I was just pointing out that orange peel reduction can be done without sanding

I agree and want to say thanks for stepping up to call this. Some of the people on this and the Get Ready to OD on HD thread should be ashamed of themselves for their behavior because it’s completely ridiculous. You’ve not only turned away Mel, but Tunch with your remarks. Are you satisfied now? You have no right to disrespectfully question these people when they are doing nothing but trying to be productive on their forum. It’s one thing to disrespect a company, a product, or even a sponsor, but to do that to the owner of this forum you supposedly care so much for is quite honestly in poor taste. I really wouldn’t blame Tunch for refusing to ever post here again or better yet discontinue keeping this forum alive when its members are spewing so much hate towards him, his company and his employees. Could you blame him? It’s not like he needs this place to promote his products, but if you take away whatever reason he has left to keep Autopia going I see no reason for him to keep sinking thousands of dollars into it. Even a dog knows better then to not poop where they sleep, but some can’t help to butcher away with their stupid remarks. I remember seeing the same thing when Meg’s was introducing their MF system and now those people are kissing their feet with how great the product is. I’m not going to name names (this time), but these people know who they are and better stop their nonsense. If you have something to say that isn’t positive you better think again before posting it. Any questions regarding my statement should be brought up though PM or with a phone call. I’m done sitting back watching this crap play out.

Sometimes things get heated up on a thread. The ultimate source for the heat is becuase participants are passionate about the subject. This is a good thing. However, it is very difficult to have an emotional dialogue while typing on a thread on a web forum. This media does not accommadate effective communication that includes emotion. It is also near impossible for a passionate person to be engaged in a thread and not be emotional about it. I know...becuase I have been in the middle of the muck a time or two...even on this forum. Sometimes, I have felt pounced on and beat up on...and felt personally attacked.



Over the years, I have noticed that it happens on forums to other people as well. People undeserving of the treatment. Individuals just trying to help with good information.



I have dealt with it, and come to peace with it. Here's how I have come to terms with it...

- I can't change others behavior. People being rude and disrespectful or chosing to be confrontational instead of having a respectful dialogue...I do not have the ability to change them. They will do what they do.

- I acknowledge the difficulty in effective communication on forums. It takes someone with maturity and good communication skills to have a good respectful and emotional debate while typing words into a box. It's really tough to do it right. I forgive those without the skills.

- Though extremely difficult at times, I try to stay engaged and proceed with my intention of providing good information and making a positive contribution to the detailing community. I sometimes pull back and make my point on another thread, or another forum. But I stay in the game. If I don't...if I get pissed and disengage, then I have given the disrespectful person all the power. They have won. Disrespectful people don't deserve that much power. Rudeness should not be rewarded with the payoff of getting people pissed off to the point of leaving.

- I continue to stay engaged as much as I can...and I practice and work on my writing skills so I can write about emotional challenges effectively, respectfully, and in ways that keep the dialogue going in a good direction.



Mr. Mel Craig....you have a lot of good knowledge in that head of yours. You have years of experience and the passion to give back to the detail community. You have already dramatically helped many detailers improve their business. If I may be so bold...is it possible you are being too sensitive here? The stronger the leader you are, and the more you put yourself out there...the higher your chances are of coming across rudenness, disrespect, and personal attacks. Please don't let this stuff stop you. If you get pissed off and leave, it is not only a disservice to your own personal commitment to help the industry, but you also deprive others of the benefit of your knowledge.



Stay in the game Mel.

I was not referring to you as one of the people hating on Mel. Sorry for the confusion.
 
Wow.....Jason Rose from Meguiars visits Autopia to give Mel Craig support and inspiration to keep on posting. :bow (now if Barry Meguiar could come here to reach out to Tunch we'd be all set! :biggrin1:) This is one of the most powerful posts I've ever read in all my forum days. Well put Jason and :thx so much for following this thread and contributing to it so greatly and professionally. I'm sure you've also had your share of online bantering and have been beat up with anti-product support in all your years in this industry. This will only make you a smarter, better and a much stronger person. Let's hope this reaches those intended and we can all be more productive people moving forward....:amen:

I wasn't monitoring the thread. I was told about it by a good industry friend of mine. I felt compelled to comment. But the thread has really gotten off topic. It's about these new products. I can't comment about them (for some reason I was not invited in the pre-market evaluations...haha!) Hopefully it will get back on topic and turn out to be a fruitful review of these new items.



Hey Tunch and Mel...get back in here and talk more about these new products! For example, tell us the kinks in the armor. Tell us how they fail. What are the weaknesses? Just kidding!!!!!!!!!! I'm hearing they are good products. I expect nothing less from Tunch and Mel. This is a great time for detailers right now. So many good performing products, tools, and procedures launched lately. Getting great results is getting easier and easier.



Carry on...talk about the good stuff...

As you may know, Tunch Goren has many decades of chemistry knowledge under his belt and wants to help the community to know more about the inner working of the products you are using.



Mel Craig has been an advocate in the detailing industry for many decades as well and is well known for sharing his knowledge and understanding of the detailing and business side of the industry.



Each will have their own forum section where they will post articles about things beneficial to the detailing community.



These sections will be viewable only. Any questions can be directed to them via pm and it may be brought up in future postings.

Great to hear that Mel and Tunch will continue to share their knowledge of the industry. We need guys like them along with Jason R. to keep inovating and bringing ideas to make my job easier and my way of life more productive. That is why I am waiting impatiently for the release of the new HD Products from 3D. I have run out of the samples and need more. Kind of addicting these products are.



Mel, I have known you for many yars and have worked and trained along side of you. You truly have a passion for detailing and a passion to help other detailers better themslves. Not only in detailing, but in their personal lives. Lets keep our industry growing and maturing. Thanks to you, Tunch and I guess Jason R. LOL for making detailing simple.

Hmmm. Not quite as good as a dialogue, but I suppose a one way conversation is better than none. I can see how this protects from publicly viewed personal attacks, but wouldn't thicker skin do just fine? Now you guys won't know true responses to what you are putting out there. Don't you want to know?



Sorry...not really any of my business. You guys know what's best for you. Glad to see you guys will be back on the forum participating.

I want to take some time here to personally thank you for your support. It surly means a lot to have you, not only as a supporter in business but also as one great friend. Over these past years we have seen a lot of things change and it seems to keep on changing as time goes on. And yes, Rhino skin is a must in business and no matter what is said or done on any forum your absolutely correct in having me continue to be the training professional I am. Some of the private messages Im getting are amazing and its those people I will continue to support and help in anyway I can.



Looks like I will be headed back overseas again several times this year and "China" is finally scheduled for June. All you told me about China and what to expect there, I can't wait to experience for myself first hand. Im sure, just as it was for you will be just as amazing for me. They are so excited Im coming over to do the training program and to get them dialed in.

I'm really glad to see this post heading back towards what it was originally about. These great new products that 3D has released. On a quick note and with no intentions of heading backwards I believe that we all at some points in time need to humble ourselves. The egotistical attitudes of well respected detailers these days are getting out of control. At the end of day, no matter how fancy you make it seem, how many videos and photos you take, or how expensive your products may be, we ALL clean cars for a living. We need to stay genuine as people and understand that just because someone may do something differently it does not mean its the wrong way. That's why we all have our own processes and opinions and what matters most at the end of the day is that we have provided our clients with good customer service and that THEY are happy with the end result. But most importantly that we treat what we do as a business and not a hobby. We all need to make money for every single minute that is spent on a clients car. The numbers do not lie. As far as attacking another individual on the internet, well that's an easy thing to do. But I myself personally can speak for Mel Craig. He is one of the most giving and passionate individuals I have ever met. He helps people by the hundreds and never asks for a thing in return. His knowledge and willingness to help me succeed on both a professional and personal level has helped me achieve goals in the detailing business I never imagined. Anyone who knows Mel personally knows exactly what I'm talking about. So let's all get back to the basics here. Let's stop making being in business to clean someone's car for them so complicated and lets all go out and make some money. Many thanks to the team at 3D, Tunch Goren and Mel Craig for the release of these products. I've personally seen how hard you all worked to release them. They truly are amazing and deliver great results. Thank you for taking your time and energy to make my job that much easier.
