Hey everyone. It's been a while since I've posted...been lurking a bit here and there, but that's about it. Things have been pretty busy for me lately between my side biz and my day job. And with this heat, I haven't been spending as much time on the cars as I'd like.

Thought I'd post up a few new illustrations I've been working on. Some of you who follow TMoore Graphics on facebook may have already seen some of these things.

This first one is my take on the Studebaker Avanti and this rendering will be displayed in the Motorburg booth at the Street Rod Nationals next month...

This next one is a rendering for a long time customer. He wanted to surprise his friends with a rendering of their race cars...

And something new I tried...I wanted to give the wheel a feeling of motion so I used a couple outlines in different positions to make it 'vibrate' a bit.

The perspective on that truck is really sweet, I like that one a lot!

What do you use to do these? I assume Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro? Do you use a tablet?

These are all done with a mouse...never used a tablet.

All done in Adobe Illustrator CS5. All 100% vector art. No photoshop stuff here.:inspector:

Only thing I use photoshop for is cropping down/re-sizing after I've saved my images from Illy as jpgs/pngs for the web.

Glad you all dig 'em. If you're on facebook, look up my TMoore Graphics page and like it. After 100 likes I'm going to give away a couple prints...2 for the 100th person, and then I'll do a drawing out of the remaining people and give-away 1 print to that lucky person.

Not 'freehand'. Most times I use a photo as a reference, or I'll take my sketch, scan it in and trace over it with the mouse, tightening it all up. All depends on the project. On a lot of my T-shirt designs, the customer will give me a photo(s) they want on the design and I'll basically trace over them in Illy adding my own illustration style to them. Many times I edit along the way, making body mods, changing to different tires/wheels and such and those are usually sketched.

Over the years I've always tried to save my customers money, so it's much faster (cheaper) to work directly from photos.
 
Here's a little insight into a few...

The Monzilla you see above...these are the 2 images the customer gave me to work with...

So on this one, I hand drew the profile you see above. He liked the wheelie shot but wanted to see more of the side. This one took a considerable amount of time to hand draw in the new angle he wanted.


Then there's the Invader I did a while back. This was my own vision of what the classic Invader car (below) could have looked like from "my" vision. This one was a hand sketch. I must have refined it 6 or 7 times until I came to this. I sketched it on paper to rough it in. Then took mylar and drew over the top of it refining it more. That process went on several times. Once I got it to this final point, I scanned it in and illustrated (traced) over top of it with the mouse. Then added all the color and final details.

And then this latest Avanti. I found an image online I liked. Then took it into photoshop, cut and hacked it to the vision I had which was lengthening the body, shortening the cockpit area and getting the stance closer to what I wanted. Then finally illustrated over top of that photo. Sometimes I'll do this and then use mylar to draw it tightening it up to more of what I want...it all depends on how many mods I want to make to get it where I want it.

Then you've got the Chevy Cruze which started from this and I added the wheels, body styling, etc in illustrator as I illustrated it. I just kept modifying my illustration until I got it where I wanted it...

So there you have it, a little insight into how I create my illustrations. Lots of different angles to attack each job, it all depends on what the customer wants and how best to achieve their goal.

Now when it comes to logos, those are all hand sketched. I start with a sketchpad and doodle until I find some ideas that work. Then I fire up the Mac and convert those into vector logos and refine as needed based on the customers requests.
