It's a shame my ZFX keeps drying up

no z5 can be used on its own as long as there has been a treatment of z1 or zfx on the finish in the past year or so.

i just wanted try activating my z5 with dry zfx to speed cure time for this upcoming detail.

I guess there is nothing I can do with the Z5 then, maybe use it on my brother's van but it has been 10 months now since I applied Z2 pro x 3 on it. :dunno:

My zfx dried up long ago, and you know, I use Z2 on cars that haven't had Z1 or ZFX on them and it works fine, I just don't apply multiple layers. Sure, I might not be getting the optimum durability, but it's either that or toss the Z5/Z2 I have in the can.

Well I didn't know this was a problem. I was considering switching to Zaino, but maybe I should just stick with Klasse.

I wonder why this happens. I know some people have said that sal has replaced theirs.

To put it plainly, if your ZFX solidified or gelled and is less than the 18 month shelf-life of this product, Zaino (Sal) will replace the product (ZFX).

Considering that very few users have faced this problem, Sal is willing to replace it if you do face a problem.

The most likely cause is not the ZFX itself ( I have some over 2 years old) but most like the failure to " immediately closing the vial tightly after dispensing. I do not think this fact is clearly denoted in the instruction. :nixweiss Remember this a catalyzing agent and is very reactive. Like super glue, ZFX if not tightly sealed will react and solidify. Storage is also important. This was a rather hot summer and if one stores their detailing products in an environment that is effected by the heat (i.e garage that is not climate controlled), this too my cause instability. ZFX also should never be allowed to freeze.

Good new though. Sal has tweeked the ZFX formulation with the intend that ZFX is less sensitive to these protential environmental and handling events. Still works great but less prone to solidify or gel.

Bottomline. Rather than complain in threads like this about "any" product, first contact the company. This is very easy with Zaino. Sal is very easy to contact. Sal has always been very customer satisfaction first and foremost. He is personally involved with his products and interaction (customer service - you talk to the Man himself) with the car fanatics that use his products. Give him a call. :xyxthumbs If you do not remember when exactly you purchased the ZFX, no problem. Sal can find your order data. If you purchased from a distributor, the same replacement policy stands.

Hope this helps. Just call Sal.

Mine became gel, too. Reported to Zaino about the problem. Sal returned my email and shipped replacement on the same day without futher question. EXCELLENCE customer services.

When the new one arrive, I am going to put this little bottle in the Food Saver bag and vaccum all the air out. No more garage storage.

As I said before blkZ28, I contacted the local distributor and receivd no help at all. In fact, I was blamed for the problem. Glad to see Sal is sensitive to our complaining. The product is now even better. :)

I, too, had my ZFX dry up on me after about a year. Sal promptly sent me a new vial, no questions asked, and kept me informed of shipping status until I got it in the mail a few days later. Great service, period. I'm glad to hear Sal has made it less prone to gel up on us because it can be really frustrating going out to the garage to add a few layers of Z2/Z5 only to find you'll only be adding one that night because the ZFX is dried up (boohoo, right?). I would almost give up a little durability to have products with either a catalyst built in or something that didn't require the additional step (like most other sealants out there) only because I like to add more than one layer in a 24 hour period. I get on my little kicks, then get lazy, so I like to knock as much out as possible at a time.

Granted, with the other sealants that don't have a catalyst, they all still recommend at least 12 hours between coats, so I guess it's 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. I still love Zaino :D

That is exactly how I feel. The built in catalyst feature would be revolutionary! Knowing Sal, I would bet that will be in the works.

Hi J,

Call Sal. He will either have your distributor take care of you or he will himself. :woohoo:

...on the other hand, with this thread, now everyone knows that Sal will replace relatively new bottles of dried ZFX without having to call himand ask him what his policy is so he has more time to further tweak his products. ;)

That is what the board is for, to get out information to as many people as possible. :)
