It finally arrived...

Well, after detailing for a year, mainly via PC, I finally received my Makita yesterday. I've been using my PC for most of my details, and when a rotary was needed, I would simply borrow a Metabo from John (Eliot Ness).

I was able to get the Makita (brand new) for a total of $169. Pretty good deal I thought. I can't wait to use it.

Just thought I'd "brag" a little. Haha. :woohoo::woot:

Damn you, Denz. Always trying to one-up me. Hahaha.

I've definitely enjoyed using the Metabo (Thanks, John). I just like the handle set up on the Makita.

Which do you prefer?

I'm not quite sure yet as I haven't technically used the Makita but I did fire her up and the Makita is pretty nice. However, I have to say that I can tell, IMO, that the Metabo is a better machine in that it seems to run smoother than my Makita.

The Makita seems a little rough/jerky/clunky in comparison but I do like it. The bail handle actually feels pretty nice and I can see it being very handy (pun intended) but the trigger operation will take some getting used to, hehe. :buffing:

So what about you Casey? Any preference yet?

On another note, I have to admit you did some great work with the PC. All along I thought you already had a rotary. :o

Thanks for the mini-review, Denz.

Well, I haven't actually used the Makita either. It arrived yesterday, and the only thing I've done thus far is opened the box, installed the bail handle, and fired it up for a minute or two. I still have the Metabo, so I'll do a comparison this weekend.

Thanks, man. I really appreciate it. IMHO, my best detail done to date was with my PC. It was the red 360 Modena....it finished out almost 100% correct. BUT, that was also on paint that was a pleasure to work on. If all cars were that easy, life would be nice.

Yeah, I'll be sure to get back to you too as soon as I use the Makita as well.

Wow, that must have been really nice, haha. I haven't had the privilege of working on exotics yet. :p

What kind/size of pads and compounds/polishes were you using by the way? I'm interested to hear how you achieved those amazing results, hehe.

Last year I got a makita for like 125 on ebay. How's THAT. Haha. The guy was selling for like 170 I wanna say, and had the "Make An Offer" option. I offered 125 thinking, no way he'll do it - that'll keep me from being tempted to buy it.. but he TOOK the offer. Hah.

Please do. Thanks.

I've done two Ferraris and the paint is pretty much perfect, in terms of how easy it is to correct. Although, I'm sure there are exceptions to that rule.

Step one was SIP w/4" orange pads, then IP w/4" white pads, finishing up with FPII using 4" black pads. I sealed with OS and topped with Souveran (Per the suggestion by Eliot Ness). I still stare at the car when I'm at the Bat Cave working on the others.

Congrats. I'm waiting for mine to arrive. I just ordered it the other day through Arctic Tools on ebay for $164 and it comes with the Makita carrying bag and a couple wool pads + baccking plate. I can't wait to get my hands on it.

you are gonna love the makita, and if i may add check into a cyclo its expensive but imo for minor correcting and applying sealants and waxes it is second to none! you have 2 4in pads simulating "waxing" by hand movement it covers a lot of area quickly
