I said "often". I guess you're the one that's wrong.

Also, for those of you with a healthcare flexible spending account from your job, you can claim rubbing alcohol as a healthcare expense. I do. :)

Well, I was planning to buy some IPA anyway for next month. So I went to a pharmacy (one of those inside the grocery stores). I asked for isopropyl alcohol and the woman grabbed a bottle from behind her counter and gave me 70% IPA. I said no, and asked for something above 90%. So she ducked again and came back with 90% rubbing alcohol. Trouble is, it listed its ingredient as ethanol.

Drove around and went to another pharmacy. This time the bottles were on the shelves for browsing. There were 70% and 99% IPA bottles, said right on the labels. Yay. Got me the 99% version. And it didn't say rubbing alcohol. This will come in handy next month when I do a full detail.

I wonder if that ethanol is denatured. Technically all ethanol except for lab/industrial use must be denatured or else face liquor taxes, at least in the US it must be denatured or taxed.

Mixtures using ethanol or isopropanol are both marketed as rubbing alcohol. You have to check the ingredients.

im confused what are u guys using this running alcohol for

Usually people use to it wipe down the car after polishing to remove any kind of residue or silicone left by the products to make sure the swirls were actually removed and not filled in.

I've wanted to try this for a while, but I was concerned that the alcohol would leave a residue on the paint that would not mix well with the products I am using. Sorry if this is a stupid question. Are you guys just wiping it on and letting it dry, wiping it on and off, or what?
