Is this the right kind of sandpaper?

You can get the Meg's Unigrit paper in broken packs for $1/sheet from Auto Detailing Solutions. The Unigrit paper is half-sheet size.

Oh wow thanks, that makes things a lot easier, I'm thinking getting 5 each of 1500, 2000, 2500? Is that good enough for a beginner? Also, I'm guessing they're not reuseable right?

Would it be better for me to use those sanding blocks? They have to be reuseable!

edit, thats a great site for meguiar's stuff, thanks again.

It's reusable to a certain extent, just wash it off and dry it carefully. There are probably some better places to get the wetsand paper...there have been other threads, you can search, or someone may chime in here. That ebay stuff may be fine. And yes, that's a good site if you want Meg's stuff.

I use ONLY the Meguiar's paper as the abrasives are uniform and don't instill any random deeper scratches. It is reusable to the extent of wearing away the abrasive particles.

Yeah, get the Meguiar's Unigrit stuff, this isn't a good time to be penny-wise-pound-foolish ;) The only way to really know if a paper is good is to use it, even inspecting with magnification won't work as we're talking about microscopically fine stuff.
