Is this guy for real?

That post reminds me of something. My girlfriend bought some detailing product yesterday from the local flea-market. The seller was demonstrating how it removes swirlmarks and makes the surface perfect, even by hand appliccation, and even in the sun!

It smelled fishy so I checked the bottle she got. I wasn't surprised to see that it's basically a carnauba/polymer combo.

The seller is smart, all he does basically is he has a swirled car, he uses the product to hide them, claims they're gone, everybody buys like crazy, then he goes home, Dawn-washes or something and voila, his swirls are back and ready for the next day's demo.

This guy is just another pitch man with no real world experience in detailing. All style and no substance. If he had any real technical knowledge of how a modern high solid clear coat finish works he would be revoking 95% of what was posted there. These products are marketed to the gullible using deceptive sales and marketing and the trend will continue until consumers get educated about their cars and how to properly maintain them.

ugh, no more. Dri-Wash, Blue Coral Touchless Acrylic sealant, Prolong, GS27, blah blah blah. It is never ending.

Sure he may try to show off his limited knowledge to the general public who generally has no knowledge of car care.

Thumbs up to you, Stephen, Bud and the other posters, VERY civil. Especially Bud' post about paint, it showed his knowledge on how paint was applied.

Not just saying a big robotic arm sprays it like Mr. Gonzales. Ugh. Someone slap him on the back of the head please.

hmm, a product that remove oxidation, swirls, polishes, and protects the paint. sure yes, can be done, but as a miracle product no.

Proper techniques and products will make a outstanding finish. Reading autopia and following the Autopian trends will make a darn neared perfect finish due to this OCD for perfectly detailed cars 24/7.

Anyway this is the end of my rant. Good to blow some steam off.

I will also like to thank Autopia, this happened about two weeks ago parked my godmother's at the local A and P next to a newer Toyota Corolla of the same color but had a newer body style, dark blue (think the Corolla was a 2002 or 2003.) My godmother's Corolla just had a wash and touch up wax with AutoInt's cleaner wax (once the weather clears and the driveway sealed, Caravan fixed, Menzerna and Zaino!.) Anyway the owner of the newer Corolla was like nice car, I nodded and smiled. He then looked and was like "You like you're Corolla? I love mine only got 3K miles on it. How did you get you're paint so nice? Must not be driven huh?" I was like wait hold on, looked at the paint and compared. The dealer so did a crappy job detailing the paint on this guys car. The swirls were deeper than the ones on my godmother's Corolla (suffered through two winters of touchless washing, salt off the car with swirls and corroded finish, I can get the swirls out.) My godmother's Corolla also had a decent pop to it considering the conditions. I told him "You wouldn't believe that this Corolla is a 1999 and has just over 110K." Surprised him and said we'll I gotta get going, and we parted our ways. Just seeing his face full of shock makes me even more proud to be an Autopian..............Should of popped the hood and showed him the engine  :D

While I have no opinions on what is being proposed, I do think an open mind is going to learn more than just dissing anything that is outside our normal thinking.

For example.

Waxes and polishes can't be used in the sun. It seems that several of them on the market now can be.

Same thing with QD'ing. Can't do it in the sun. Yes we can, with the right product.

Can't wash properly without a generous supply of water. How about QEW?

Can't wash without water. Poorboy's Spray & Wipe seems to work pretty well.

Only paste waxes have any durability. How about the liquid synthetics now on the market? Not really wax, but dfinitely serve the same purpose.

Anyway, I guess I am always looking at the possibility of a better product being developed. Happens every day.

This may not be the better product, but there will be a few.

Anthony...I think he already posted here a while back...I believe BradNC bought some direct from Germany and it was real expensive. We were waiting for his assessmnet...

His claims are rediculous as well as the application methods for what he is claiming....

just to recall quickly..it said the surface should be hot or warm, yet they said to apply with a damp cloth, which would cool the surface....it also said no petroleum distillates or abrasives yet removes oxidation....as you said clearcoat don't oxidate they scuff, scratch and the more scratches and let's say micro-marring on the surface it can "LOOK" like oxidation....and yes a cheap wax with lots of silicone (snake oil) can temporarily hide even a nasty dull finish.

As far as the attack on Dri-Wash ...it was a multi-level marketing project with little or no redeeming qualities other than the pump bottle which many people seem to like for fine misting another product. I've seen them since day one at car shows(they tried to recruit me) and now there are barely a few left if you look real hard. I know one personally and he still after 7 years has some of the original bottle he was sold...even some hand cream???

We all realize that there are no miracles by themselves but a few good products with a bit of effort can keep vehicles looking great forever.

One other side note is that machines are not the answer to every problem....there have been finishes of show quality long before there were rotaries and pc's and a good shoulder and hand action can give as good if not better results with the right products

just my 2 cents

I have personally used the product. I talked with Mark on several occasions after purchasing his product to make sure that I was applying it correctly. I must admit that he was very helpful. I need to finish writing up my review and post it under the review section. Anyway, the one thing that the product does very well is to cleanup and shine black body trim on your car. However, I'm not sure how long that will last. Your cloth turns black while rubbing it with the polish. I hope that is the gunk coming off it.

After I first applied the product, the car did look good but the swirls were still there. The real disappointment came after I washed the car for the first time. After I washed it, the paint would squeak when I touched it. It seemed as if it all had washed off. I may be wrong but I was freaking out doing my Autopia disappointment dance.

I decided to send the product back in accordance with the money back guarantee Mark promised when I spoke with him on the phone. However, my Visa card has not been credited yet and I sent it back 3 weeks ago. I have also emailed him about crediting my Visa. I check my statement online so things show up daily. Anyway, since he hasn't responded to my email about the refund I have proceeded with disputing the charge with my creditcard company.

Brad

thanks Brad...you confirmed our thoughts....I still believe your problem is below the clearcoat....

That really s#cks about the credit card charge...but luckily here in the USA the cc companies will stick up for you.

Edit: oh btw...now that you've sold all your stuff..where do you begin again?

ps how's things at home?

Things are as good as they can be I suppose. I hope all is well your way too Steve. The next product I'm going to try is the finish first line. I will put the review of acrylicwerks on here and post one about finishfirst after I am done.

Catch ya later.

Hmmm....I've been hanging around here for about 2 years and did not know there was an "Autopia Disappointment Dance". Is there an Autopia Happy Dance too? :dance :dance

Remember the SNL skit with Chris Farley and Patrick Swayze both trying out for Chippendale's? Is the Disappointment Dance sorta like what they were doing? :scared :nixweiss

Help us out here. ;)

I would say that the disappointment dance is very similar to the one Chris did with Patrick and I do it often when things don't work for me. However, the Autopian happy dance is more like the lunch lady dance Chris Farley did. AHD (Autopian Happy Dance) and ADD (Autopian Disappointment Dance) should be added to the acronym list I suppose.

Interesting thread you linked, Anthony. Glad to see Bud is back to constructive criticism instead of confrontational like he can be at times. Definitely some good information from you guys. Can't say the same for Mr. Gonzalaz though. He seems very evasive when it comes to specifics.

It would be nice if there was a true all in one product, but there isn't.

"It would be nice if there was a true all in one product, but there isn't."

Everyone here is always looking for the newest, best, fastest, shiniest, easiest to use product. If this existed we would be the first to adopt it and not critisize it.
