Is this a porter cable? EBAY, so HURRY!

I can't quite tell what that is exactly, but what you are actually looking for is a 7424 or a 7336.

That is neither!

No, that is an inline sander, you want an orbital sander. All the Porter Cable models spoken about here are the same unit, the only difference in the part numbers is the attachments and accessories it comes with.

Best PC Deal on E-bay is to buy a Lowes Coupon for $3 or $4 bucks and go to Lowes and get a 7336 Brand new for $98 ($109 less 10%) plus any local taxes.

Total cost $98 + $3 coupon = $101 plus any taxes

Buick_guy- Those Cyclos might *look* beat up, but they'll have plenty of life left in them. If I didn't already have two of 'em I'd probably bid on them myself! They're going cheap, so far...

Do you like the cyclo? I am thinking of getting one, just to try it out and see what it can do.

would you prefer a cyclo or a pc. I noticed with the cyclo you can scrub carpeting with it.

I thought those coupons were available free for registering at Lowes.com and mentioning that you might be moving within the next 3 months. I know others here have used that and mentioned something like this, but I couldn't find the exact area of the site or I would link it here.

Figures someone is selling that on eBay. :o

Yes there are places to get them for free, Post Office Change of Address packet, but they will only send one per address.

I used mine from my recent move and happened to see them on Ebay, If I need another one $3 will pay for itself easily.

Heh heh, I've gone *on and on* about PC vs. Cyclo so much that I'd better spare everyone my further rantings :D But...

Short answer- Yeah, unless you're dealing with complicated contours (like the hoods of certain Jags and Benzes) where the Cyclo's heads just can't get in the crevices like the larger PC pad will (you know, like when you "deform" the pad to get the outer edge in there), the PC just can't compete with the Cyclo. The Cyclo is a whole 'nother animal; there's a reason why pros like you use more Cyclos than PCs, and have for decades. It'll *almost* do mild rotary-level work. If you talk to Irene at TOL or Terry at CMA, they'll give you an earfull about how pros love the Cyclo. And almost everyone who's used stuff here at my place (newbies, friends, family, etc.) has preferred the Cyclo hands-down.

IMO, the carpet brushes work a *lot* better on the Cyclo than on a PC, if only because the Cyclo doesn't bog down any under load the way a PC does. You actually have to be a little careful on some carpets/fabrics.

I'll truly be  if no Autopian picks up one of those e-bay cyclos!

At over 250 USD, it would be cheaper to get a PC and good quality Rotary over just the cyclo.

The PC/Rotary combination would be much

more useful. As you said, the PC can get into places where a Cyclo can't - Plus:

1. It much more fool proof for beginners

2. Going quickly is easier with a PC as it's more forgiving

3. Less expensive

4. Plus, I like the vibration and numbing feeling in fingers after a good PC work out. Makes me feel like I really have done something important !

5. Having a rotary in hand would be very useful for serious defects that the cyclo wouldn't be able to touch as well.

Does the cyclo have it's place, sure, but for the money - I don't think it's all it's cracked up to be.

I'd personally rather spend money on new products and giving them a go than forking over 250+ USD on a polisher that's somewhere in between a PC and Cyclo.

I'm sure many here feel the same way.

I went out to ebay looking for cyclos yesterday, and there were only a couple of used ones out there. I don't know how old they are, or how much use they've had. Are there "new" ones out there I missed? I searched for "cyclo".

Fleet, when I found those two I typed in "cyclo polisher" in the search bar and it brought those two right up. When I searched for just "cyclo" I didn't find anything.

Paco- Yeah, on another thread (which, I think, got lost recently), I basically said the same thing- you and I aren't really in disagreement as much as it might appear.

I take the "PC or Cyclo?" question on an individual basis, everyone's situation is a bit different. I find myself giving different advice to different people when we get down to specific details via PMs. I *often* agree that the PC/rotary is a better combo for most people and that the Cyclo is sometimes a "luxury". The advice I gave to NYDetailer is quite possibly different from what I'd say to someone else.

But for people who already have a PC and want an intermediary step between it and a rotary, I still think the Cyclo is great. *I* use my Cyclos more than my PCs and a *lot* more than the rotary. Having all three is, to me, like having many styles of wrenches as opposed to having just a couple. And plenty of people I know get by with just a Crescent wrench in the kitchen drawer.

I just happen to like the Cylco better than the PC; in many ways, it's just a personal preference issue. I used Cyclos for about a decade before getting a PC, maybe the added familiarity factors in.

And about the price, on *this* thread, I'm thinking about the used ones on e-bay. *I* would rather have a used Cyclo for $86 than most other (new) polishers in that price range.

Thanks for the reply - I'm going to search again tonight when I get home. I've been debating whether to buy a PC or Cyclo. I may get both if I can find a good cyclo on Ebay for <$125. Otherwise, I'll have to make a choice.

The velcro shavings issue in the pads is worrying me abou the Cyclo. I do like the product though.

Yeah, I was just discussing the used ones from the Sullybob's thread. Having given one of mine nearly 20 years of hard use, *I* wouldn't hesitate to buy a used one.

The velcro slub issue isn't all *that* big a deal. It's not a huge problem on the green polishing pads that you'd use most.
