is there anything that people here absolutely do NOT like?

i mean that several different people have all had the same bad results. Be it towels, waxes, polishes, etc.

Can we name say 5 things to stay away from.

Turtle Wax Rubbing Compound (aka fine sand)

Bug n' Tar removers that come with green pad

Turtle Wax Color Cure Waxes (used by pirates when selling cars, like mine)

People leaving thumbprints on my paint when they close the passenger door.

1. Anything with the Turtle Wax name on it

2. Those silicone oil based tire shines

3. Anything with a candy/sweet fragrance

4. Any product or mfr that is overhyped and overpriced

5. Westley's Bleche White tire cleaner

6. Those crummy shammys they sell at swap meets and car shows

7. Bug & Tar removers that are just mineral spirits (does not remove bugs)

great list guys!. isn't it funny how some of the worst products are the most readily available.

i remember when i got my first car when i was 12 and i put Amor all on my VW bug. the whole car was done that way.!!!! then i moved up to washing it bi-weekly with 2001 wax/polish.

and now, 3 cars later, i have finally started to figure things out.....:D

I can't resist. I've got to get my shots in. I HATE the califorina car duster. By 'hate' I mean that I won't ever use one again. That doesn't mean that its a crap product. I just won't touch one. I was traumatized as a child I guess... :p

I don't hate any one manufacture indiscriminatly. I don't feel that all Turtle Wax products are crap because I really liked their bug and tar remover in the yellow can. It worked wonders on tree sap.

1. Nu-Finish. Takes all the good stuff out of paint. I had the misfortune of being uninformed and used this on my old Civic. It would look shiny that day. By the next day it would look flat and DRY.

2. Black Magic. Greasy oily bad silicone goo that doesn't like being near good stuff. Made the mistake of Lexol-ing my friend's car after he had applied this crap- the entire dash turned a milky white color that had to be washed off with soap and water.

3. Turtle Wax. Their entire product line. Especially the Color Cure crap and also the "Formula 2001 Protectant Wipes" which might be the most ineffective moist tissues I've ever seen.

4. Pine Pollen

5. Door Dings.:angry

1. Wheel cleaners that are too strong.

2. Meguiar's Rich Leather Wipes.

3. CMA's Blackfire II (smears like Hell).

4. Using Dawn to wash your car (just my opinion).

5. Any sealant that promises 5-year durability or protection for the life of your car.

6. Safe Scrub Bug/Tar Sponges. I don't know if anyone else has ordered these before, but they're so stiff and prickly, I would even hesistate using them on my tires. It actually hurts when I rub it gently on my arm. As much as I hate the OTC polypropylene covered sponges to remove bugs, they're still a hundred times gentler than these Safe Scrub POS's. I'd stick with Porsche Tequipment Insect Remover.

Passengers that have no respect for a clean interior:o .

Dawn(imo).

Brake dust.

Overpriced products and shipping costs.

Ditto on the fingerprints on passenger doors.

That layer of dust that jumps on your car after you finished waxing/sealing/whatevering and drove a few blocks to show your friends. Then your friend says "why is it dusty?". Meanwhile he takes it to the local car wash that has the filthy nylon brushes with OPD (Other People's Dirt) because it's 4.25.
