is there anything from 3M that equals s100/p21s ?

Sounds like a good idea. Note that ScottWax and I seem to have quite different experiences with the 3M. It lasts FOREVER for some people and needs redone quite quickly for others (ditto for P21S, Souveran , and others). And the whole (pretty subjective) appearance thing...see what YOU think.

It also seems to depend on the car. German cars seem to need to be waxed more often, no matter what I use. What may bead 3-4 months on a Lexus may only bead 2-3 months on a BMW or Mercedes. :nixweiss

I have ordered myself some S100 from my nearby harley dealer, and will prolly be buying 3M's showcar paste wax locally, in order to compare both of them......we'll see...........girlfriend has a red car and mine is metallic black.

I really wonder what's the lowdown on both of them, in terms of durability, depth and reflectivity. As far as i can see, both are prolly hard to tell from one another, as no one said *this or that one is DEFINATELY better* therefore, i conclude(personal testing stil ahead though) that both are very good wax ;)

Heh heh, you and I must be living in some weird parallel-universe situation. On MY german cars (the Audis), whatever I use (EXCEPT for Souveran) lasts forever! LOL There DOES seem to be a product/car matching factor though. Some combos work a LOT better on crtain cars than others.

BIG "BUT" with any of my durability comments is, of course, that some of my cars hardly ever get driven. Also, I have LOTS of Klasse SG on the Japanese vehicles (and the Jag and Volvo are single-stage) so I can't REALLY compare fairly. You are in a MUCH better position to comment on durability!

FWIW, Accumulatorette's A8 DOES get used a LOT and I only have to redo the 3M a few times a year, despite spot-claying with every wash...we're really proving that, as they say, YMMV :D

Chip Douglas- Did you ever think your initial inquiry would lead to so much discussion?! I look forward to hearing about what happens when you try them both.

Does this have to do with the more "water-based" German paints?

I don't know. When my car was wrecked about 3 1/2 years ago (someone turned left in front of me), the front end of my car was repaired and then repainted with Spies-Hecker paint (spelling?) which from what I understand a German paint. Guess what? It beads longer than my original Honda Paint.

Accumulator-Audis, VWs and Porsche all seem to bead longer in my experience than Mercedes and BMW. Maybe it is just because about 75% of the Mercedes and BMWs I detail are black. :nixweiss

Honestly, i'm kinda surprised it has drawn the attention of so much......on the whole a great thread, with ineresting comparisons and answers

:up

I'm applying Z on my girlfriend's ride tomorrow morning, i look forward to seeing it Z produce such reflectivity and gloss........i did everything to make its application successful.......washed, clayed twice, removed as much swirls as i could, and dawn washed, so now, it's finally ready....................i must say that if not happy with zaino, i'll just turn round and use S100 to top it, as i got my container this morning.

i'll keep you posted on the results.

take care :xyxthumbs

Whew! I feel like I've just been to a wine tasting...

'Course I"m enjoying a fine Argentinian malbec at the moment...

This thread is a great example of Autopian enthusiasm. As a 'pro', who fits the Minivans in between the Diablos, I find it quite refreshing!

I'll be trying the 3m product...

Jim
