is there anything from 3M that equals s100/p21s ?

I'm wondering if there's anythinh in the 3M line of products, that would equal S100/P21S, or at least get close to it in terms of depth...........the reason im asking is i have access to all of 3M's line locally, yet they have an extensive line of products, and at times i find it gets confusing to pick and choose any one product, as they tend to mix up terms much like Megs....there should some kinda convention or if you will a uniformity in terms.

I know 3M has a polymer/acrylic/silicone show car wax(paste and liquid version) but no one ever talks about it, so i guess it s not it doesnt produce such a show car look, or it s just that not a lot of folks have tried it as yet on this forum.

I don't know how 3Ms Show Car Wax would compare to S100, I've never tried it mysel but there use to be a few people on this board that used it and liked it. I would try it in the paste form given the opportunity because it did get good mention previously. You might want to try it if you can get it locally.

I use 3M's Show Car Paste Wax on Accumulatorette's silver A8 and I currently have P21S on my metallic gray (sorta silver) XJS. The 3M is, *IMO* quite comparable to the P21S. It gives JUST the look she likes on her Audi (her previous fave was Souveran). I find the 3M VERY easy to use and quite long lasting. It *IS* a rather hard wax (you'll think you got a dried out can at first). I usually apply it with a RO and remove it with a MF. At the price, it's certainly worth a try :xyxthumbs

Oh, and FWIW, I would't read too much into the "Showcar Wax" name...it's not like they're gonna call something "beater car and work truck wax" ;)

:lol you sure got a decent sens of humor buddy, and your post is interesting.............so you say that the depth and shine is about the same ? is it that close to one another ? you re the man, as you got the 2 waxes layered. Could you tell, which is which on either of your car ?

have a nice weekend :xyxthumbs

Ive used 3m liquid show car wax and I found it very good . It gives a very nice shine and it last a long time for a liquid. I would say the look is more like Meg.26 but it lasts longer. 3m says that it will last 10 to 13 car washes. I dont think that it will last 13 car washes but it does last a long time. I dont know about the paste wax ive never used it.

SORTA hard to objectively compare the two as they ARE on different cars and the Jag is a sorta weird color (is it gray? is it silver? well, it IS all marred up, that much is certain ;) ).

Depth and shine- neither P21S or the 3M are quite as "deep" looking as Souveran, but they are, IMO quite similar to each other. Shine is, *IMO* VERY similar and they both seem to be a LITTLE shinier than the Souveran, but again, that's just my opinion.

It's just SO close. We're talking subtle differences that maybe my wife and I can notice but NOT something anyone else is gonna see. I honestly can't imagine someone using one or the other and being disappointed they didn't use the other one instead.

What color are you gonna be using it on? Some products really look a lot better on certain colors.

mine is metallic black :D

As a guy who owned a LOT of black (solid and metallic) cars, I'm tempted to offer my sympathies :D

If you don't find the P21S (I see you're looking for it), the 3M oughta work just fine for you. I'd certainly put a synthetic under it though, in an attempt to better protect that paint from additional marring.

I have couple bottles of Zaino on the shelf that i'll put underneath the carnauba...........i have never tried zaino so far, i"ll find for myself if it has such an outstanding look :D

I use 3M Showcar paste wax on my BMW that sits outside - it is a very durable wax, and the shine is much better than s100, IMO. It is a deeper shine whereas s100 seems to be more reflective.

I love the stuff.

The P21S is my choice over the 3M because the P21S goes on and comes off so easy!

Agreed. 3Ms Show Car Paste is a decent wax but it can be streaky at times, especially if it is humid. It only seems to bead good for about 6 weeks though and I'm getting about double that with S100.

I agree with adg44 about the appearance--3M seems to have a warmer glow (like Meguiars #26) while S100 is brighter and more reflective.

IMO, S100 looks better on lighter colors and metallics and products like 3Ms Show Car Paste, Meguiars #26 and Clearkote's Carnuba Moose look better on solids and darker colors.

interesting, this is getting pretty accurate, i'll prolly get both of them, as much like the vast majority here(at least i guess) i like to try products out :D

I use 3MSCPW often as well but since it's a relatively hard wax, as you mentioned, I find myself applying it by hand. How do you spread it evenly on the RO's pad? I've thought about microwaving it to soften it up a bit, then I realized that the tub is made of tin. :(

I apply it to the pad with a plastic razorblade. It might SEEM like a tough thing to do, but I actually find it works out pretty well. I don't worry about a perfectly even application on the pad, I just get it on there and spread it around as best I can. I'm tempted to say that it works better than it oughta, I'm THAT sloppy about it. When using the PC, I apply it at speed 3.5-4 or so. I remove/buff it by hand with a MF or use the suede-style MF bonnet from TOL (on the Cyclo). No problems (yet?) and I've been doing it for quite a while.

I too thought about microwaving it (maybe put it in a plastic jar), but it's working out just fine, hardness and all.

Sounds like a good idea. Note that ScottWax and I seem to have quite different experiences with the 3M. It lasts FOREVER for some people and needs redone quite quickly for others (ditto for P21S, Souveran , and others). And the whole (pretty subjective) appearance thing...see what YOU think.

I have been using s100 and the 3m show car paste wax and trying to decide which is better. While the performance of s100 is well documented here on this website and I find it very good, I think the 3m paste wax is one of the more under-rated products out there.

I think the 3m shine is a little deeper.

I have a red car.
