Is there a way to "restore" your microfiber towels?

Wash the waffle and blue surgical towels separate from other towels or separate from each other ?



Edit: do you just throw the detergent in before the wash cycle or are you saying wash with a detergent, then throw the vinegar in for the rinse cycle?

Uhm....I think the anwer is "both". I wash WWs separately. Most people would also wash non-MF/non-WW window towels (e.g., the huck towels) separately as well. I myself just wash all my cotton (non-MF) towels together with no problems.

Depends on the washer, some newfangled ones (my HE one) won't let you add stuff "manually" when you want to, gotta put it in the dispensers and let the machine add it when it thinks the time is right (I hate this).



But with normal washers like in my shop, I add the detergent for the presoak or prewash and let that be enough for both that *and* the regular cycle that follows. A bit of it gets rinsed out after the presoak/prewash, but there's still plenty for the regular cycle and IME you usually end up using more than enough detergent and the big issue becomes getting it all rinsed out.



Yeah, you use the vinegar as if it were fabric softener.
 
Ok so ya our HE washer locks and doesnt allow adding of things easy. So i could add vinegar to the separate solution thing (softener dispenser) then it will do its thing.



Hmm so right now if i was things accordingly i have about 6 loads lol.



orange, blue, and yellow MF, drying MF towels, Terry(cotton), Huck, WW.... My head hurts :(

Anyhow I've had great success restoring my seven year old Pakshak drying towels and keeping my new MF towels to keep like new in terms of softness and colour with a shitload of white vinegar soaks for up to three hours and also switching my laundry liquid to Citrus Resources brand (owned by Oates now) Citra Fresh



it's keeping my MF towels like new and with only 7 to 10ml needed to wash a normal or large load (I have a 7.5 kilogram washer), it's cheap

SVR- Ah, the vinegar works fine for you too, huh? IIRC, it was the guys at PakShak who cautioned that it might cause issues.



Interesting that you do OK with the air-drying. My textiles usually come out nasty-stiff unless I do them in the dryer for some reason.
 
My towels would turn out quite stiff with regular laundry liquid used to clean them but since switching to Citra Fresh, they come out great. I go through about 2 litres of vinegar for every four washes - I like to really soak them in it. Where I work part time they machine dry their towels and they always end up linty and very rough feeling and lose their absorbancy

The acidic content of citrus (pH3.0) or vinegar (pH 2.0) is what separates the fibres, neutralizes any minerals and balances the pH of the solution, helping to remove any excess detergent, which results in soft absorbent fibres

Got my micro restore today, and OPC on its way. Since our HE washer locks the lid not allowing adding of products during rinse. If i want to add say vinegar like suggested should i just add it to the bleach/ softener dispenser and the washer will dispense it properly? Also so washing the huck towels with my cotton terries is fine..
 
Shane.belzers- Any way you can use an agitator-style washer instead? My HE (and it's supposedly a very good one) is pretty awful for washing detailing textiles (and anything else that's really dirty).



But yeah, add to the "bleach" dispensor if you want it in the wash cycle; add to the "softener" dispensor if you want it in the rinse.



Make sure the dispensor is clean, the "softener" one is often loaded with softener residue.



IMO washing the hucks with your other cotton towels will be OK, but somebody's gonna say to wash 'em separately to avoid getting them loaded with lint from the other towels, and I can't really argue with that.

Doubt they will switch from HE to non HE. Your right though it doesn't clean nearly as good as the older style. Also i don't see why washing the hucks with my window ww towels would be problematic... Our washer only has a bleach dispenser its States to add softener in with the items and detergent then to make sure the "softener" setting is turned on. So i don't think there is a way for me to dispense vinegar during rinse cycle?

Since I'm only taking care of two cars (and most often only one at a time) I don't have a massive load of towels to wash. I have washed 3 or 4 huck towels in with the MF's and haven't had any problems. The hucks produce almost no lint so none seems to get in the MFs. Since I'm mixing towels I just use a larger "load setting" so there is allot of water for the few towels I'm washing--perhaps this is why everything seems to come out OK. This is a conventional top loader washer though so they use allot more water than the HEs.
 
Shane.blezers- I can't figure out those washer instructions :confused:



I get the "Downy Ball" thing...just do an extra rinse with vinegar in the dispensor-ball.



But if you're using the ball, what's the point of selecting the "softener" option?!?



Heh heh, glad I'm not using *that* washer!
