Is there a shelf life on polish/wax/sealant?

Wonder if any of these products are less effective after a certain number of months or years sitting on the shelf? I have Menz. and Blackfire products.
Also is it better to store in a cooler place such as inside the house versus ouside in the hot garage in the summer months?

I also have a lot of different wax/polish/sealant's. I had heard somewhere that there is a shelf life on some products. If anyone out there has more info there is a lot of us would like to know.

Absolutely dead on regarding temperature. I recently purchased a can of Meg's Gold Class Paste Wax from a national chain because the price was way too good to pass up (and I like the stuff). When I opened it up, it was rock hard, not the creamy consistency I was used to. After I "talked up" the manager, I found out they had several cases sitting in a storage container, for a year and a half, in sunny So. Cal.

As far as shelf life/expiration dates, I would imagine it probably depends on what's in the product. As an aside, a vitamin manufacturer told me recently, that even they weren't sure when some of their products should be taken off the shelves and would assign dates to either please the Feds or that seemed reasonable. So if a manufacturer of things we ingest can't tell when it will go bad, it will probably be even harder to predict for car products. Just my $.02:)
 
I don't know the specific recommended shelf life of the products you mentioned but I will find out!

As far as abrasive polishes, I have a bottle of Orange Label Menzerna IP, circa 2002 (most people have never seen this bottle or label) and an original bottle of Final Polish (when it looked like black tar) and they still work pretty well.

Because care car products do contain chemicals, petroleum distillates, solvents, polymers, and so on, they will have a typical shelf life. As mentioned this going to be dependent on many factors however. Heck I have a jar of Meguiar's M16 Paste Wax from 1987 that still works fine!

a) Polymers have a shelf life of approx 3-5 years if kept in their original containers and stored at temperatures as above

b) Waxes will last almost indefinitely, provided that they are stored a sealed in their original containers and in the refrigerator once opened. The liquids should last 18 months if stored at normal room temperature.

There are always exceptions - see TH0001 post above

So a paste waxed should be stored in the refridgerator once opened??

Some people do.

Here's what I was told when I asked PBMA. The makers of Souveran, Fuzion and Wolfgang etc.

No need to refrigerate. Make sure the wax is sealed in the jar and store in a climate controlled area inside of the home and not in the garage due to the heat in the summer.

My waxes stay at 75-76 degrees year round inside. So hopefully they will last a while..

One of guys on another board has had a tin of #16 and another paste product (can't remember which) for over 20 years and says they still look ok, and still perform very well.
 
Ok, thanks for the reply. I have all my paste waxes sealed in original container in a cabinet inside, so same temps year round. My two M16 tins I just got are in there as well.
 
Some time back, when I had more issues than I have now, I -used- to seal up all my stuff with one of those vacuum food things, not a real good suck out but just until the bag started to collapse.

shelf life on wax

HI,

Had Zymol left in a no heated space for 2 yrs, had it in a fridge for a long while, finally after 8 years; wax is as new.

Not to do with liquid waxes.
 
I don't know if this matters or not, but I found some rubber O'rings in my garage to fit my P21s 100%, P21s, S100, and Fuzion tubs. The Souveran's I have all came with O'rings.

Maybe this make a difference in sealing the tubs??
