Is there a brush...

... to remove the grime that accumulates in the lug nut recesses of wheels while washing. It needs to be soft for chrome rims, but have enough oomph to loosen the grunge.

If not, what do YOU use?

Thanks

Spray the surface with P21S Wheel Cleaner, agitate with a wheel brush and rinse off. Use a foam swab to clean the area around the 'lug' nuts (Groit's PN 10266 Ten Foam Swabs)

Yes, I asked the same question a while back.

The Zymol wheel brush in red from Emmons Coachworks works well.

You can also use the end of the Oxo car wash brush. The fibers are long enough to get in their and be effective for agitation.

Another option are S100 swabs from your local Harley Davidson Dealer.

Advance auto stores is stocking one that is specifically designed for that purpose. No way I can possibly articulte how it looks, but my buddy just bought one. I will see if he can post a pic.

Most of our current vehicles have exposed lugnuts. I use the cylindrical BHB that comes in the three brush set from Griot's (pn 15520). I've tried everything else and IMO it's the best, hands-down. I do use those Griot's swabs to clean the inside/backside of the wheels though :xyxthumbs Since I've started being more conscientious about keeping them sealed I only need to use car wash shampoo on them.

FWIW, I'm so sold on those little BHBs from Griot's that I'm tempted (but *only* tempted ;) ) to say that if somebody doesn't like 'em I'd buy the things. Between wheels, wheelwells, doorjambs, and other tight spots, I couldn't detail without them.

Like this you mean ? The big one is bendable too, in order to get into my PITA wheels.

Axe,

I was thinking along the lines of the smallest one on the left. But I ordered some foam swabs today. Where did you get your setup?

Those are from a BMW dealership, they all come packaged together. Yes the one on the left is for the wheel nut recess, the one in the middle is for those lil hole/indentations that are mighty tricky to clean, and the big one is for the inside of the rims, this will actually reach to the back of the inside of the wheel too. I should mention that they all unscrew and fit on the one handle.

They work very well, but they ain't cheap - £30.00 UKP what's that approx $58.00 US ?

Gonzo,

This is the brush that ebpcivic was talking about. i just picked this up a couple of days ago...it is made for lug nuts as you can see the space in between the loops in the middle. The bristles are fairly soft for a wheel brush...not as soft as an interior brush but not as hard as a stiff bristle toothbrush( if that makes any sense) I think it would be perfect for what you are talking about. They have them @ Advance Auto Parts for just a few dollars.

I like the oxo wheel brush it gets into the lug crevices quite well, along with a good wheel cleaner and I have no problems

Paul,

That BMW car shampoo looks awfully close to a P21S bottle. Is it the same soap?

Lee, I can tell you that the shampoo is superb, it puts a gloss on the car and beads without the aid of anything else. I am not sure as I have not used p21s but I can tell you the shampoo is orange in color. You have to add it to the bucket after the bucket is full, and stir round with your hand. When you look at it, you think, man this is going nowhere, where are the suds. Then when you start to apply it, bang suds everywhere, and they stay on the car until you rinse too.

It is very good stuff.

The BMW soap is a great deal at 7 bucks for 500ML.

I think though that it is Sonax not P21S, I think if you google a pic of both bottles you will see what I mean. I made a post here or on Bimmerfest ( I tried searching, no luck) F1Crazy I think replied with the pics. He convinced me its Sonax, even the color matches.

Either way its great stuff, maybe a little harsh but still great. I gotta pick up a bottle now that im thinking about it. I would guess I have enough soap to last 8 years now.

Are these soaps available from U.S. BMW dealers?

It does look more like Sonax. I was told that Porsche's car care kit is from P21S.
