Is THE sickness setting in?

Yes sir it is...I'm going to post a pic of the crap I have bought since I started visiting this site a month ago. You'd think I ran a professional business out of my garage :D . HELP!!!
 
As I read through the post and all the replies I thought...gee, there are other people like me! I bought a new car May 15th and have dropped about $700 on detailing supplies since; that includes my PC, pads & supplies.



It is refreshing to know that there are other people that are the same way. That's why were all here on Autopia - what a perfect name btw. I really feel at home here. Five years ago a few of us may have connected on a Usenet group...today there are like 70 of us on here all the time.



Everyone I know is trying to get me to do their car now that I've done a few for friends. I've been trading details for more products with friends, but its getting out of hand...I think I'm going to start charging. Now that football season has started I want to enjoy my HDTV and watch some football too.
 
Yes, I'm there, too. I dream of winning the lottery not to travel to exotic places, but to build a much larger garage and detail my collection of cars!!!

I am truly sick and enjoying it! Unlike a sporting event, when I detail I never lose. The vehicle always looks better than when I started. And since I do not have a garage, I often hope it will be cloudy so I do not have to wait until later in the day to use my PC.

Our family has three vehicles: the Lexus now has Souveran over multiple layers of Klasse SG, the Mazda has Sourveran over Wolfgang, and the BMW has Souveran (two layers) over multiple layers of Wolfgang over multiple layers of Klasse. One day I did a compete detail on my neighbnor's M3 because I just thought it was suffering and needed help.

:eek: You guys as scaring me! I'm just a newb and all, but I see myself sliding into the insanity with you and there's nothing I can do to stop it. Since I found Autopia, I've started to exhibit many of the symptons you're all talking about:



In the last month I've purchased a PC, a few sets of pads, enough Megs #16 paste to last me two lifetimes, and a bunch of other stuff. I've got another Autopia order on it's way to me right now. But my car's been in the body shop since the end of July, and in my desperation to use this stuff I've polished my friends' cars, my family's cars, my girlfriend's car, and even HER family's cars! At my lowest point, I used some #80 to remove a big chunk of paint transfer from the bumper of the rental car I'm driving... :o



I drag my girlfriend to the few local places that carry detailing stuff, just to see if they've got anything new. I turn up my nose at cars that cost more than my house just because they've got some hood swirls. I see an oxidized paintjob in the parking lot at work and I want to polish it before they come out and then hide and see if they notice. I tear up as I drive by the coin-op spray 'n wash and see some guy grinding the dirt into his big black Excursion with the greasy bristle brush. I'm planning to use the hood of my winter car (an '81 Olds Toronado - the hood's big enough to play volleyball on) as a multi-product PC polishing comparison test. Is there any hope for me? Seriously, I'm terrified...
 
I ran into a little extra cash today...stopped by the Porter Cable / Delta store near my office...came home with a PC...factory refurb..$109...ordered the Sonus pad set to go with it.



So I'm now in it close to $400 and I've barely started.



It's gotten to the point that I can't afford to drink.



But I'm OK with that.

Sounds like you all enjoyed cleaning the toilets with toothbrushes during basic training. Truth be told, I was kind of proud how the showers looked after I "detailed" them.:) I even got a couple of merits from the squadron commander!

And that's why I work for cases of beer. The beer must be delivered with the car. So I guess that makes me an alcoholic obsessive compulsive detailer.:D



Cam... I'll add you on an intermediary list 'til you can prove that you're truely insance. Once a 30 member quota has been met, I'll submit a request to David. Who am I kidding?



Carl... beautiful car. I've been working on my 99 E36 M for probably 4 days now. It's the most patience I've shown in prepping the suface, which all comes down to the first coat of Souveran tomorrow. It might be cosmos, yet it'll be the first time I've tried Souveran, so my hopes are high. It's a shame though I love driving the car, but after tomorrow, I don't know if I'll want to pull the car out of the garage.
 
I am not insane (I think)...



But I just got back from the West Coast and there was a new Ferrari on display in the lobby of the hotel as advertising for a car dealer.



Everyone was oohing and aahing. But I just said, "Holy polish Batman! Look at all those ugly scratches and swirls!!! Why would they do that to such a fancy car?" [It looked liked they'd used steel wool to clean the car.]



My friends did think I was nuts.
