Is Souveran really worth it?

Is buying a Mercedes over a Honda really worth it? Yes, they will both get you from point A to point B, but one will get you there looking a whole lot better! :xyxthumbs

:nixweiss I'd take a V6 Accord Coupe (6 speed, of course) over a G500 or a C230.

Better get a new analogy. I have experienced both types of vehicles. The only thing Mercedes has over the Honda is flash. Honda beats in every driving aspect I can come up with. I will admit that I feel richer when driving the Mercedes!:D

Sorry if it wasn't a perfect analogy. My brother used to own a Civic Si and my mom had an E430 and there was no comparison, kind of like a tin can vs. a tank which is how I came up with the analogy.

Sorry to get ot, the point was that one is like the luxury car of waxes. Yes, it will protect just the same (maybe even less in some cases) and when you get down to it, only the more experienced eye will even notice the difference, but to the experienced eye that difference is huge. I haven't touched my canister of P21S since I bought Souveran. On the other hand, if the expense is more than you really want to spend, there are others available that will do the job.

Point well taken and better understood now. I think you just convinced me not to get Souveran. I'm a huge Honda fan and I find Mercedes to be highly overrated along with most other European vehicles. I think I'll stick with S100.

To each his own. Just remember, you get what you pay for. :p

hehe lovin' the cliche's ---

but to be realistic...you do get what you pay for...but only up to a certain point -- Where that point is crossed is the subjective issue that varies from person to person.

I have a problem with blanket 'you get what you pay for' statements because there is no denying the presense of extra $$ value associated with certain brands marketing corporate image and perceieved 'prestige'.

eg. Why do people pay $10 for an 'official' BMW mug...against a 50c no-name brand. Do you get what you pay for? I'd argue no.

Law of diminishing returns!:xyxthumbs

colche,

You are completely correct. The old saying "you get what you pay for" just doesn't quite cut it these days because there are just so many scams running around. In the end, it is personal preference and research that will point you in the right direction. The "get what you pay for" comment was targeted to the honda vs. mercedes debate I was in with termigator, which was just for fun and had nothing to do with Souveran. To be perfectly honest, I can't stand Mercedes anymore after my mother owning one and it being a total pain in the butt. I was just using a little analogy that I thought everyone could understand and not take to heart, obviously it touched him as a little harsh. By the way, termigator, are you calling all of the European car owners here suckers?? Hmm, that sure is a lot of suckers!

To answer your question why people would pay $10 for a bmw mug vs. a generic no name is for just that....the name, and what determines who buys that name brand mug is a person that wants it *just* for the name and are very happy with their purchase. There is no right or wrong here, all personal preference. The same question can be applied to almost anything regardless of the topic.

As far as Souveran goes, it is my favorite wax because it is the easiest to apply and *to me* looks the wettest, and like I said earlier, to most people they will probably never even notice a difference so if you have to question the price, you are better off buying something more in your price range, but when you are dealing with top quality products like P21S, S100, Pinnacle, etc. you can't go wrong with any of them.

With the special going on at Classic Motor Acc its hard not to want to try Souveran. Its only $29.95. Def something pickign some up. I know that the sale price is almost double the cost of S100 ($15). However with this sale, its the cheapest I have ever seen it. I would have to say that now is the time to give it a try.

I take it you are talking about the liquid version and not the paste? I went to their site hoping to find the paste for 30 bucks, lol, then I saw the $70 price tag :shocked

My bad....sorry about that. I read the CMA newsletter way to early this AM. :(

They do have a nice deal now for Souveran..You get a free bottle of Crystal Mist and free buffing cloth.

If you've wanted to try this wax but were waiting for the right incentive, here it is. From now through April 30th, 2005, we're going to include a FREE spray bottle of Pinnacle Crystal Mist and a FREE Perfect Shine Buffing Cloth with every jar of Souveran Wax..

I would not go so far as to call all European car owners suckers, but I do feel a lot of them buy them strictly for status and not because they feel that they are superior automobiles. IMO, that's not a good reason to buy a certain brand. I used to rent cars at a Mercedes dealership and I ran into so many people who just bought a Mercedes because it was a Mercedes. Most of them were nice people, but they also knew very little about cars and bought them because of the prestige they felt it gave them.

Don't get me wrong. If I had the opportunity to buy an M3 or E55, I wouldn't hesitate, but I'd be buying them because they are superlative vehicles, not because my cashier will ooh and ahh when I pull thru the Chick Filet drive thru. On that same count I don't want to plunk down $70 for Souveran if it doesn't give me any appreciable difference compared to P21S/S100.:)

BTW, I would also love to get a BMW 540i, but I can't stand the styling on the newer BMW's.:down

I never tried it, and its not that I can't afford it either. IMO no wax is worth $70. The only way I would pay that much for a wax/ protectant is that it really does protect for one year and have the looks to match that just wax look after 1 year. So far no product exist that can actually do this. IMO it may looks better than stuff like P21, Natty but I just can't see spending more than $40 for a wax.
