Is single stage paint still being used?

I'd be unhappy if I paid that much for a car and found out it was single stage paint.

I would venture to say many of them would never find out. A lot of people that detail their own cars sometimes have to test a spot with a rag and some cleaner wax, and look for transfer to see whether it is clear coated or not. Many of these premium brand owners are never going to detail their own cars - they will either take them back to the dealer for clean ups, or hire a professional detailer.

Cadillac has been using tinted clears since *at least* 1994 with the color they called "pearl red", later changing the shade a bit in 1998 and calling it "crimson pearl". I have no painting experience to quote before that.

Crystal Red is the latest iteration of that color family for the division.

That's because a red pearl doesn't naturally occur and this is how they make it appear that it does :)

I've come across many hondas (accords, etc.), toyotas (tundras), and nissans (x-terra) that were white ss paint.

Mitsubishi evolutions have whites and rally red as a single stage paint. The electric blue, graphite grey, apex silver and their black are clearcoat which is sad because they are monsters

Mitsu Evolutions' red and white are ss paint. I think MAYBE their Bluebyyou blue color MIGHT be. red and white def are. Which is sad cuz white is sex and those cars in general are monsters and a true bargain
