Is ONR Still King?

Haven't ben on the boards much. I'm out of ONR and am wondering if that's still the way to go? I've thought about trying to the Ultima Waterless wash. How does that compare?
 
I have and use both, but for different purposes. I use ONR as a rinseless wash - solution in bucket, wash car using mitt and dry with blower and towel. I use UWW+ sort of as a super QD - saturate panel, then wipe with MF towel. May just be my comfort level with the product, but I've only used UWW+ on smudges, watermarks, maybe some light dust, light road film - I just feel more comfortable doing a rinseless wash if the car is dirtier than that.
 
I've given up on ONR as a rinseless wash. It works well but I don't like how it stains my wash medium. I still like it as a clay lube.



I mainly use QEW as my rinseless wash now, for me it works great and doesn't stain the wash medium plus I can buy it locally. I also have the Ultima and it works well too as a rinseless wash but is a little more pricey.

I use microfiber covered foam pads, no problems with staining. It did stain chenille covered foam pads, but it worked great. How attractive my wash pads are far less important than how nice my car looks after I wash it with ONR. ;)
 
Heck, I'd better get with the program! I still have two unopened bottles of QEW (remember that?) from 4-5 years ago.



My locale hasn't had rainfall/water issues for quite a while, so I've been two-bucket washing, with a foam gun. Been happy with the results. Any goofs were on the paint were my fault. I'll deal with it in the spring.



I detail for myself and my kids, and a friend or two. So, I am very low-volume.



Guess I'll use the QEW as a clay lube.

Scott, I agree that appearance of the wash media is not a primary issue. ONR, in my expereience, leaves my wash medium rough and scratchy and after using it for ONR duty I have to reassign it to grunge duty. I know you are a big fan of ONR and your results speak for themselves.



Kind of ironic but it was from you that I learned about QEW back before ONR existed. In fact I've learned quite a bit from your posts and have great respect for your work.



In the case of ONR as a rinseless wash the disadvantages outweigh the advantages for me.

My chenille wash pads got stained pretty heavily when using ONR, but that never seemed to reduce their effectiveness. I have since switched to the Optimum Opti-Mitt, which is a pretty nice foam wash mitt with a big footprint. The foam is dark-colored, I assume so that the staining isn't noticeable! :lol:
 
Its not the dirt staining, its the grime (oil/road film). This washes out easily with a degreaser for me. It appears ONR attempts to keep the grime in suspension and it seems to do that really well on wash media! My buckets also get really dirty on an especially grimy car.

After the first few times using ONR, I stopped using QEW, a product I'd used for over a decade. To me, the difference was that much.



If you decide to try ONR again, switch to a microfiber covered foam pad, they work a lot better than any other wash medium I have tried.

Thanks for the tip Scott and thanks for the suggestions on wash medium for ONR from the others, I'll have to try them all.



Truth be told I'm quite happy with the results of QEW, I can't tell much difference between QEW and ONR as rinseless washes as far as the results on the paint go. The QEW leaves all the grime in the water and the wash bucket and the wash medium rinses out clean with just tap water. Maybe the hard water we have here in Michigan has something to do with it.
 
What does QEW stand for ?



Where could I find it locally ?



I have a full bottle of ONR but always looking to try different stuff as my garage cabinet would show....lol.
 
Quick and Easy Wash. It has wax in it that can fill.



For a rinseless wash, there is no reason to buy anything else. Nothing is "better" than ONR.

For a waterless wash, nothing is better than 3D's Waterless Wash.
