is it safe to use a Pressure washer to wash?

How many of you guys use a pressure washer to wash your cars up? I never really thought it was that safe because it could possibly push the dirt into the clear/paint. However, I am looking for some ways to speed my process up and I just ordered my CRspotless deionized water system. What do you think?
 
thats exactly why. u push more contaminants in than u take out. if the car has a chip u risk removing the paint or making the chip worse. u interfere with the longetivity of the sealant even risk stripping it.

trust me, stick to hose and bucket.

when it comes to washing a car there are no shortcuts. there may be tips and ways to make it easier to do, but no shortcuts.

leave the express wash to the wanna-be's and take an extra 30 minutes off one morning once a week.

as for the cr spotless. sounds like a good investment to me. from what i read it sounds very handy. and u produce a lot less marring.
 
It is safe to use a pressure washer. Just make sure that your unit operates at about 1300 PSI and that you always start with the lowest water setting. I suggest the fan setting. much better pressure than a garden hose and really helps to remove a lot of road film quickly. A pw is also excellent for rims and underneath wheel wells.
 
joyriide: I agree with you on the fact that there are no shortcuts, just looking for some things to make things easier. From my point of view if you're not going to do it 120% don't do it at all. Thanks for the reassurance! :bigups
 
I use one of the least expensive pressure washer from Home Depot. It doesn't have too much pressure to damage anything, it does make it a bit faster, a ton faster on the rims and lower body panels. Just make sure to use the fan setting and keep the spray pattern at an angle to the surface, this keeps the dirt moving off of the finish, not into it.
 
I use a 2500psi gear driven cat pump honda pressure washer everyday. To me its not cuting corners its saving time. Time = Money. I got over $50,000 into my truck and rig, but hey i'm one of those wanna bes that does the express wash with a pressure washer. But my cutomers always call me back.

So i say yes it is safe to use a pressure washer. Just use common sense. Do try to take bugs off with a tip that you can write in concrete with. :lmfao
 
True Detailer: Do you just use it to rinse...I guess I am curious your procedure and any info about how you use it while washing for minimal marring(which tip, angles etc...) Also, do you notice any marring from using such a high pressure?
 
I use my pressure washer through out the whole wash process, from $30,000 to $300,000 vehicles. Does not push dirt and grime into paint.

Can anyone suggest a budget pressure washer. I dont want much pressure at all. Just a little more than the hose can offer.

Your advice is good tuba.

There are numerous inexpensive pressure washers on the market today. I saw one at Sams Club the other day with a 5.5 HP Honda that delivered 2000 psi at 2.5 gallons per minute, with downstream injection for soap if you want to use it. The price was $298 which amazed me, and there are probably several units available out there cheaper than that.

I wash on the average of 75 cars, vans, suv's, buses, and trucks per day (tues thru fri), and 150 trucks on Sundays, so it's imperative that I use a pressure washer, and mine cost over 5k. I use a 50,000 grain water softener which is hooked up inline with my unit, and it helps immensely to use softened water. Pressure and the degree of spray can be adjusted by the size of the tip one uses, and damage can be done to paint if you're not careful. For personal vehicle I would recommend a 40 degree tip @ 1000 psi until you get used to a pressure washer, and know what to watch for. If there's a chip in the paint and you're spraying @ 3000 psi with a 15 degree tip and get to close, there's a good chance you'll peel the paint. On painted plastic trim you have to be especially careful as the primer process is usually crappy or nonexistant on plastic.

I guess I could go on and on here, but the just of it is that I'd never knock anyone for washing their vehicles by hand, but I couldn't get through a day without a pressure washer.
