Is it safe to put floor mats in a wasing machine?

You can put them into the larger front loaders (the ones for quilts, blankets, etc) you see at laundrymats that don't have an agitator. It actually works very well. Top loaders with an agitator will take out chunks of carpet, don't ask how I know this.

When you are done, toss them in the large dryers at medium heat and they will come out real nice.

I have put the mats from my Benz into the washing machine but I got a front loader. You still need to pre-spray the mats and rub on the mats a little. My mats come out like new but Mercedes have nice carpet.

Thanks for the replies.

I have a BMW, the carpets are OK, but not great. (My Dad had a caddy STS, and the carpets were great.) I also have top loaders. I figured that was the case. I just switched to my rubber mats for the winter and wanted to clean the carpet ones before I store them.

Thanks for the advice,

Steve

Trust Scottwax...take them to the laundrymat and use one of their front loaders. I found out the hard way a few years ago and had to buy new mats...even if you have a front loader you will have a lot of carpet fiber in your washer & dryer.

I tried this with honda prelude blue factory matts they were very nasty, I washed and scrubbed with brush, then tossed them in the washing machine. I then put them in the dryer. The ribbing around the edge became frayed. But I used a pair of scissors and snipped them off the matts came out great and looked much better. but I would not use the dryer from my experience unless it was the washing machine? No machines for me. I'll stick to hand, powerwashing or machine cleaning and air drying them, sometimes after steam cleaning my matts, I'll turn my heat on and direct it to the floor for 20-30 minutes, or hang them in the sun for awhile.
