Is it REALLY worth it to buy a PC?

I am thinking of buying a PC today or tomorrow. The question is: Is it really worth it? I am not a pro. I have 2 cars that I work on often. I would probably only use the PC on these cars 2x/yr.

Any thoughts on the matter.

PS: Limited swirls on the cars and they are silver and gold

Yeah, it's worth it. It makes some of the toughest (physically speaking) parts of detailing a whole 'nother ballgame. If you, as you said, "work on [them] often", you'll use it more than two times a year. I can't think of ANYONE who decided it wasn't money well spent.

It's well worth it. IMO, you can get better results with less effort. Not that working by hand can't achieve great results, it may just take longer and require more work. I'm all for making it easier, I take long enough to detail as it is.

I put off getting a PC for a couple of years. . . and as soon as I finished using it the first time I could've kicked myself for waiting.

Unless you're Scottwax, you can't duplicate the finish a PC puts on a car, working by hand.

Go on, do it. You won't regret it.

Yes, it takes the fatigue out of polishing and you can get consistent results from beginning to end. There are a couple of online vendors that can get you up and going for under $200. As many others here, you'll like using it so much you'll branch out and start doing your friends and family member's car for practice and fun!

Check out:

Nick at Detailer's Paradise. He has the 7336 polisher for $120 shipped plus a pad kit that includes a 5" hook and loop backing plate and 4 Lake Country Pads (1 each of yellow, orange, white, and black) for $46.

DavidB. at the Autopia Store has a 7424 kit for $179.95 that includes the polisher a 5" backing plate and 3 Lake Country Pads ( 1 each of orange, yellow, and black).

Both PC's are the same it is just the 7424 is marketed as a polisher which comes with a polishing pad and the 7336 is marketed as a sander/polisher that comes with a polishing pad and sanding discs.

Good Luck :xyxthumbs

Absolutely. I just got one a few months ago, and can now get better results, much faster, and with much less effort. I can not emphasize enough how much easier my detailing sessions are now. You don't have to use it just twice a year. With a finishing pad, it makes thin layers of some sealants really easy to put on.

Everyone has spoken...Fun, Fast, Fantastic and 99% Foolproof.

I use a "5. There is an "Definitive Porter Cable...." post you should read.:usa

I use 6" and 6.5" sized pads so I'm now using the 5" yellow flexible backing plate. Less vibration and more control with the smaller pads and backing plate, IMO.

Can someone put a link to the "Ultimate pc post".........The search says it needs 3 words to do the search.......and it isnt taking "ultimate PC post" as 3 words!!

I am ready to buy my PC today.....was thinking ofCoastal tools since you get the backing plate and 6" counterweight with it.

Just got my first order of Zaino in yesterday and cant wait to try it!!! I guess all I have to do is order the pads from here at Autopia......Davids post on using Zaino with a buffer says to use the grey pad I believe ( will look it back up before I order)...is that for both the Z2 and Z5??? I know 2 seperate pads though...

Is this all I should need to get rolling.....AND SHINING!!!

Or should I order the Lake County backing pad from Autopia as well??

HEEEELP!!!

Also the PC that Nick is selling is the 7336SP and I believe that it comes with a 6" hook and loop backing plate, 6" counterweight and the white polishing pad. Not to be pushy, salesman-like but it looks to be a bit cheaper, $120 including shipping, plus you can get pads from him, Coastal doesn't carry the hook and loop pads just the Porter Cable white pads.

Actually, the 7336SP doesn't come with a hook and loop backing plate (unless Nick is throwing one in as an extra). As it comes from Porter Cable, the 7336 comes with the white polishing bad, a 6" counter weight, and a backing plate for adhesive sanding discs. You still need to get a hook and loop backing plate, possibly as part of one of his kits.

Another option for the PC is to get the 7336SP (same as the one at Detailers Paradise) at Lowe's for $109. Again, you still need a hook and loop backing plate and pads.

It's very much worth it to me.

In the time i've been on this board, i've never encountered a single poster who has regretted their purchase or felt it to be useless.
