Is it possible to clean old pads that have dried on polish?

Dawn power disolver will remove it after a little soaking.

As Dan said above- I would also use a brush to remove dried polish debris

He hasn't said if they are foam or wool yarn, that could make a difference.
If foam, I would first put them on the buffer and use a brush as they spin to knock off the heavy dried deposits, then hit them with compressed air.
Who knows, that may be enough, but at least when he washes them, has a better idea of what is "clean".
