Is It OK To Lay My Wash Mitt On The Concrete Before I Wash My Car?

I'll bet I can wax that.
Just like the title asks, I was just wondering if it was acceptable to pro detailers or enthusiast detailers to lay the wash mitt on concrete before washing the car.

Is this OK?
 
Well, I asked for a reason because this morning I was reading some how to articles from a company that is pretty popular and right there in the picture the guy had the wash mitt laying on the ground while he was filling up his bucket and then when I scrolled down the page there he was using it on a Mercedes!

I was freaking out when I saw it!
 
Yeah, I don't see what the problem is. I do that all the time and don't have any problems. It's not like the concrete is dirty or anything. It's smooth concrete. I don't see a problem with it at all.

No way Jose. Unless you can guarantee a more or less "sterile" surface, why ever risk it? Abrasive materials that can cause much havoc on your paint are not readily visible and places like a concrete driveway are "ground central" for them.

Many of you are aware that for my peace of mind, I use multiple mitts per wash. I highly recommend that but also the method in which you transport your mitt (s) to the area where the car is to be washed is impossible.

I simply carry them in a plastic pail. If I need to lay down the mitt, you can lay them in the pail. ( Add another designated just for that, if you really desire ).
It's a simple, little extra thing that's not a big deal to me.
 
This is what I thought. Maybe I should send an email to the company with a link to this thread so they can see that perfectionist detailers would never let the wash mitt touch the paint after it's been down on the concrete.

If you get a little stone embedded in the mitt this could be a disater. I always lay my mitt over the bucket and then use the hose to rinse it before i put it away.While washing my mitt stays in the bucket..

but i have been guilty of laying my tire mitt on a clean concrete surface at times ,buy i do this very rarely..

I was hesitant to do that because I don't want to cause any problems for anyone.
 
if its the new Resistanceee' Microfiber' Mitte' then your okay (j/k) but no i dont lay my mitt nor would advise anyone too....

also remember you dont know how clean his floor...also was the floor wet...for example if he simply lay down the mitt then pick it straight up but if he drag it on the concrete see my point...so he maybe able to get away with it even any of us but thats a fifty fifty chance of not catching anything in are mitt to catching something i think most if not all of us wouldnt want to take that chance at all since we dont want to do an extra step or repaint....did the mag talked about that or did it just show pics....if they stressed it or acknowledged it ok that a nono especailly if it a pretty large co they should no better...
 
my primary wash bucket has a little holding tray for your wash mitt, so I use that. I also use 3 different wash mitts during the wash.
 
I often hit a spot on the concrete with the power washer, put my mit down and spray it off/out. I do see a problem if it's just being set on dry, uncleaned ground.

Although your probably correct. imho i'm not sure this would be good work ethics to begin or end with..

You can do the same but put it on a grit guard before hand. This way there will be no dirt getting onto the pad and the water will be able to freely rinse the mitt.

Good suggestion and a much better alternative..
