I went and bought a clay bar yesterday and was planning on doing it today. Unfortunatly here in PA its raining again like it does almost every day this year for some reason. Will it hurt anything to clay in the rain?

No problem,. feel free !!The only thing that will hurt claying is heat on the surface, tends to dry your lubricant out......As for the rain, just use the rain as your lube.....

The only problem with rain is that the water is dirty, so in effect your using dirty water as a lube.

Exactly...grinding dust particles into the surface...I wouldn't do it.

Why is rain water dirty ? or are you saying do use rain water as the only cleaner on a dirty car [ie]. clean car first .

I also live in western pa and are rain water is quite clean

The only problem i see is getting wet yourself .

Actually, I have found that rainy days are the best time to clay your car because you don't have to worry about your car drying out and etching while you are claying.

Don't rely on the rainwater for your lube. After washing & rinsing your car (don't dry yet), clean out your bucket and refill with soap and water and use that as your lube. If you think there may be dirt particles from the rainwater, don't worry because you'll be 're-wiping' each panel with your soap mixture as your lube. When done, pull the car in your garage and dry.

The only downside to this situation is you can't 'sheet' most of the water off during your final rinse. Not really a big deal though...

A late post, but we jsut ahd our first rain in AL for a month.

I now love claying in the rain =) Great experiance. Spray a bit of lube on a panel & the rainwater dose the rest.
